Family School Sports Academic College Work The problems you may find with your social media started with a certain thought process- it may have been…this is funny…my friends will like this… The same thinking will not be what fixes the problem. The goal of this session is to change the way you think about social media and the impact that it can have on your future.

How will your pictures affect your future? Doug Gansler, 50, is the Attorney General for Maryland and he is currently running to be the next Democratic governor of the state. (2013) His son Sam and his classmates were having a 'beach week' graduation party at a rented home in Delaware in June Gansler is pictured in the middle of the party surrounded by teens holding red Solo cups. He denies responsibility: 'It could be Kool-aid instead of beer,' he said. This was the end of Ganslers elected political career.

How early should we start tracking our academic success? Social Media should tell a story that is written by you. Don’t leave it up to chance and have your story written for you.

Social Media Presence and Admissions 27% of admissions officers surveyed said they Google Prospective students 26% said they lookup applicants on Facebook 35% said that when checking up on a student’s online presence, they found something negatively impacted an applicants chances of getting in. You do need to clean it up and make sure it represents who you are. You can see by the percentages that colleges are looking…and they are not the only ones.

Employers are looking as well. If your social media is telling a story you don’t want told, it isn’t going to change the story all by its self. YOU need to take action now and write the history you want the world to see. This isn’t just for students that want to go to college. This information is for anyone wanting to go to college or become employed.

What is the goal? Trying to get a job? Trying to get into college? Do you need a scholarship? Applying to Grad school? People are watching and now they have the tools that make it easier. Let your applications and the information you send to employers and colleges speak for itself. This presentation is geared for those that are using social media. We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason. Relationships! That’s right, get out meet people and develop real live relationships with real live people. Look them in the eye, shake their hand! Relationships with the people that you live, work, go to school with matter. These are the people that can prop you up when times are tough. These are the same people that can introduce you to potential employers or your next mentor. It is hard to build a real relationship only through social media.
