2 Required Materials TI-83 Plus or TI-84 graphing calculator
Binder with loose leaf graph paper TI-83 Plus or TI-84 graphing calculator Pencils Bring agenda to class daily

3 Why should students take HS Math I in Middle School?
Students receive a high school math credit. Students complete one of the four required high school math credits. Students anticipate taking more than four required high school math credits.

4 How is Math I different from previous math classes?
Students must maintain a detailed notebook containing warm ups, classwork, homework, and Tool Kits. Students’ final grade will be 75% course grade and 25% EOC grade. Students will be covering the Math I curriculum as well as the 8th grade Math curriculum.

5 High School Requirements – First 20 Days
Teachers have a 20 day evaluation period to determine if placement is appropriate. Students must demonstrate an understanding of the introductory unit, quality classwork and homework, and appropriate problem solving strategies. After day 20 (September 26th) , students may not drop Math I.

6 High School Requirements - Attendance
Students may miss a maximum of 10 days of the Math 1 class. All days over 10 must be made up during Saturday school, summer school or scheduled make up sessions. Students who miss more than 30 days receive no credit for Algebra I. Must be present for 2/3 of the class to get credit for the day. Schedule appointments around your class Mrs. Jordan 8:45-9:45 am Mrs. McKeithan & Ms. Neel 1:45-2:45 pm

7 High School Requirements – Exams and Grades
Students will take the Math I End-of-Course Exam as well as the 8th grade End-of Grade test. Math I EOC Exam will count 25% of final year average. The Math I grade and EOC score will be placed on the student’s high school transcript but not count towards the GPA.

8 High School Requirements – Next Year
Students who pass the EOC as well as the Math I class will move on to Math II. Students are not allowed to repeat Math I if they pass the class and the EOC.

9 Student Expectations Students will attempt to complete all homework and classwork. Students will study notes/work and review sheets to prepare for tests. Students will ask questions and persevere through tough problems. If they need support they will ask their teacher. When students are absent they will check the website to get the homework assignment and get caught up upon returning to school.

10 How can you help? Verify that your child has completed homework nightly. Minimize absences. Try not to schedule doctor/dentist visits during your child’s Math I class. Do not schedule vacations during scheduled schools days. Check the website for homework assignments when child is absent. teacher if you have questions or concerns.
