2. Course Description
This unit shows you how to create computer games using Game Maker, a software package that enables students to create their own 2D games.
Game Maker uses icon-based programming to allow the student to design and create their own arcade, platform and maze games. Students are also able to add backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects.
Students develop skills in programming, planning, problem solving and structured thinking

3. About the course
All work in done on the student notebook, which has all the software installed. Extra images, icons and sounds are provided online.
Students are required to complete a minimum of three different types of computer games – of their own choice as to theme.
There are two written tasks, which looks at (a) the social issues related to gaming and (b) the computer games industry.

VCE Media
VCE Computing
However, the improved skills in digital, visual, technology and information literacy acquired in the course have many flow-on benefits that are of value in all subject areas.

5. Extra activities/costs?
There are no additional costs for this unit.
All game design software required is already installed on the student laptops.
Additional royalty/copyright free images, backgrounds and sounds are easily available online.
