There are other verbs that follow the same pattern as prendre.

Boire = to drink (This verb is irregular)
Je bois Nous buvons Tu bois Vous buvez Il boit ils boivent Elle boit elles boivent On boit Negative: Nous ne buvons pas de Coca.

Partitives – In French, partitive articles are used to express some or any.
To form the partitive, use the preposition de followed by a definite article. (Sometimes a contraction will form which will change the word slightly.) Je bois du thé chaud. Elle prend de l’eau? I drink (some) hot tea. Is she having (some) water?

The following are contractions for the partitive de:
de + le = du de + la = de la de + l’ = de l’ de + les = des

Tu prends de la soupe tous les jours. Tu prends une banane, aussi.
Partitive articles are only used with non-count nouns (nouns whose quantity cannot be expressed by a number). Tu prends de la soupe tous les jours. Tu prends une banane, aussi. You have (some) soup every day. You have a banana, too.

To give a negative response to a question asked using the partitive structure, always use ne…pas de.
Est-ce qu’il a du lait? Does he have any milk? Non, il n’a pas de lait. No, he doesn’t have any milk.

Regular –ir verbs Like regular –er verbs, there are several verbs that end in “–ir” that follow a pattern. You have to take off the “-ir” on the infinitive and put the new ending on to conjugate the verb. (**Note: Not ALL verbs that end in –ir are automatically “regular –ir verbs”…like avoir, for example.)

Finir = to finish (Regular –ir verb) Je finis Nous finissons Tu finis
Vous finissez Il finit Ils finissent Elle finit Elles finissent On finit Negative: Nous ne finissons pas la pizza.
