4 See Anything Wrong Here?

5 A Common Problem 50-90% of workers who use computers at work report eye strain or eye fatigue

6 Common Symptoms Red eyes Eyes twitching Dry eye Rubbing eyes
Blurred vision Physical fatigue Decreased productivity Increased work errors Headache, neck & back pain

7 Blink Rate Purpose of Blinking to distribute tear film across the surface of the eye

8 How many hours do you look at a screen per day?
30% of Americans stare at computer and other electronic screens greater than 9 hours a day. 60% for 5 hours or more a day 93% for 2 or more hours a day Source: The Vision Council Source: Zeiss

9 It is not just less blinking:
Today’s electronic devices also give off high- energy, short-wavelength, blue and violet light, which may affect vision and even prematurely age the eyes. Early research shows that overexposure to blue light could contribute to eye strain and discomfort and may lead to serious conditions later in life such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can cause blindness.

14 Kids are at risk of increasing near-sightedness (myopia)
Between 5-13 years old the distance between the lens and retina is still changing The rate of myopia in Americans grew from 25% of the population to 41.6% of the population by 2004. China Moms: In 2015 data, up to 80% of Beijing teenagers are nearsighted. Sunlight matters: Kids are playing less time outside and more time indoors in front of screens increasing the risk of myopia New data from China (in publication) says playing outside for 40 minutes could reduce the risk of myopia by 23%

16 Computer Glasses Single vision computer glasses reduce the risk of blurred vision, eye strain, and bad posture. Single vision lenses are for any age computer user. Occupational progressive lenses are a multifocal lens that corrects near, intermediate, and distance vision. These lenses give you a larger more comfortable vision at the computer, but it is not recommended for longer distance tasks. Occupational bifocal and trifocal lenses offer a higher zone for intermediate and near vision rather than regular bifocal and trifocal lenses. The position of the intermediate and near vision zones can be customized to your specific computer needs.

17 10 Tips to Reduce Eye Strain
Get a comprehensive eye exam. Use proper lighting. Minimize glare. Upgrade your display. Adjust your computer display settings. Blink more often. Exercise your eyes. Take frequent breaks – get up & move! Modify your workstation. Consider computer eyewear
