1 SmartSuites: An Introduction

2 SmartSuites should house the following equipment:
1. A wall-mounted SMARTboard with four Smart pens and one eraser in the attached tray. 2. A local CPU, wirelessly connected to black/silver DELL keyboard and mouse. 3. A DVD/VHS player with remote control 4. A ceiling-mounted DELL projector with remote control 5. A traditional classroom chalkboard has also been installed for additional collaborative use. Please report any missing equipment to Abbey Rimel in Rm 224 or Scott Weiser in the Computer lab.

4 SmartSuite Functions There are four basic operations you may perform in a SmartSuite… …use the local machine with SMARTBoard …use your laptop with SMARTBoard …project from local machine -or- laptop onto screen …project a DVD/VHS film onto screen

5 Instructions This tutorial explains how to perform all four functions. It is recommended that you read the entire tutorial through the first time. Once you have a basic understanding, this tutorial can be used as a quick review. Please, click once to begin learning about set up of SmartSuite functions.

6 Use local machine with SMARTBoard
Check back of local computer Make sure both the projector cable and SMARTBoard USB cable is plugged in Push power button on projector The local machine should already be booted up. Move the mouse or press any key to view desktop. The desktop of the local machine should display along with the SMARTBoard tool menu

7 Warning! Use only the SMARTBoard pens and eraser located in the attached tray! Any other writing or erasing device (including dry erase markers!) will destroy the writing surface of the SMARTBoard. Always turn off projector at the end of your session! The power button must be pressed twice. Wireless mouse and keyboard work only in SmartSuite room—they should always remain in same room!

8 SMTBRD w/local machine (cont.)
Log in as yourself using your username and password. Click on the Orient option from the SMARTboard menu. Orient the SMARTBoard by using the Smartpens to touch the center of each red target. You are now ready to display files from disk or from your bengal space onto the screen! Remember to log off at the end of your session! Please contact Abbey Rimel in Rm 224 tel ) with your questions! 9 Use your laptop with SMARTBoard
Note: when using your laptop, you will need a wireless connection to access any server shares or Internet files in the SmartSuite Download SMARTBoard software 1. go to: smarttech.com 2. choose “software downloads” on lower right hand side of main page. 3. choose software version without clipart (for faster download) 4. Follow steps in download and install wizards 5. Give yourself TIME! May take mins!

10 To Register or Not? Smarttech will ask you to register at the end of installation process. You may cancel out of registration process, or, if you like, you may add your personal info and receive updates and other information via from Smarttech.com. Serial Numbers for SMARTBoards may be found beneath the pen trays.

11 Shut down! Shut down your laptop
Add peripherals--you will need both projector and SMARTBoard connected to your laptop. These steps are important. Your laptop will detect the projector and SMARTBoard as it reboots!

12 Plug in SMARTBoard The SMARTBoard USB adapter normally runs from SMARTBoard to local computer. Remove cable connector from back of local computer and plug into your laptop’s USB port.

13 Plug In Projector The projector cable normally runs from media outlet to back of computer Remove the cable from the back of the computer and insert into your laptop—this port will vary from laptop to laptop. Press the power button on projector.

14 Turn on your laptop! Your laptop should detect the SMARTBoard and projector. Press the “Source” button on the DELL remote. This allows the projector to detect your laptop as its source. Your desktop should be projected on the screen.

16 SMRTBD w/laptop (cont.)
Click on the Orient option from the SMARTboard menu. Orient the SMARTBoard by using the Smartpens to touch the center of each red target. You are now ready to present material originating from your laptop, using SMARTBoard technology! Remember to log off at the end of your session! 17 Just Projecting At any point in your session, you may press the “Source” button on the DELL remote. The projector then scrolls through all of its current connections and will choose the next one in its rotation. Regardless of whether SMARTBoard is connected or turned on, you may project from the DVD/VHS, your laptop, or the local computer—as long as these are connected to the projector’s media outlet! Your video source should be playing so that the projector can detect its signal.
