My honourable gentlemen, I stand before you today
to convince you that we should bring an end to the
suffering, misery and bloodshed. To do this we must
abolish slavery. Did you know the average age of
death for an African slave working on the plantations
is just 26 years old? Sadly, the lives of innocent
African men, women and children are being cut short.
The inhumane, evil and cruel treatment they suffer
must be stopped. We are ruining their lives. You must
listen and act today, or the blood of thousands of
innocent people will be on your hands. Shocking

less skilled than Europeans. This is madness! African kingdoms before the arrival of white
Europeans were just as advanced as those in
Europe. For example, Clarkson says that “in the kingdom of Benin studies showed that the
people were highly skilled in ivory carving,
pottery, rope and gum production”. This shows that African people are skilled in many crafts,
