3 Informed Ed Goals JFK’s Vision is for students to complete a minimum 30 Norco College units AA or AS degree completion Certificate completion Transferable and major-specific class completion Complete classes recommended from the college student will attend next year

5 10th Grade Students How Many Classes?
Expected to take 1-2 transferable classes each semester. Must take at least 1 each semester to maintain enrollment at NC. Students should focus on subjects they are most likely to succeed in and avoid overlapping high school core subjects in 10th grade. To be eligible for overload in 11th, must have a 3.0 and 9 units completed at Norco College by the end of the 10th grade year. Students with a GPA above 3.0 may be eligible to apply for the Norco College Honors Program. Norco College 10th guidelines: No overload* will be offered 3-8 Units Fall/Spring 5 Units max Summer/Winter

6 11th Grade Students How Many Classes? Norco College Guidelines:
Encouraged to take at least 2 transferable classes each semester. Must take 1 each semester to maintain enrollment at NC. Norco College Guidelines: 3-8 Units Fall/Spring 5 Units max Summer/Winter 11 Units for overload* students (Over 3.0 and 9 units completed) Take the AccuPlacer test at Norco College if needed for English, Science, Math and Foreign Language classes. This option is for students on an Associate’s Degree pathway or applying for Norco College Honors Program. With approval, students following the STEM educational plan may take Norco College Math or Science in place of High School Math or Science Students taking History and English classes at Norco College will take them in conjunction with High school US History and LA 3 A/B.

8 What is Excel? EXCEL is a 30 min. period before lunch
Monday-Thursday: Academic Support Required for all students the first 2 weeks of school then each student is evaluated individually and assigned to EXCEL on an as-needed basis. Will vs. Skill

9 What is Excel Cont.. Friday: Guidance
Friday EXCEL is required for all students. Teachers are assigned to a grade level and work collaboratively to enrich students learning and progress toward A-G completion. Grade level teams work from the same curriculum No College courses on Fridays Teachers work closely with Administration and Counseling to stay up to date on A-G and college entrance requirements.

11 Making it all work RULES: Must take 2 high school courses per day
Must have 2 days available for EXCEL (not counting Fridays) No college classes on Fridays HOW TO: Look at JFK Bell Schedule Find college courses in time slots which allow for 2 blocks per day at the high school

13 Finalizing your Norco/ JFK Schedule
After choosing and registering for your college class(es): Print your Norco College schedule from Web Advisor Turn it in to a Counselor along with a Schedule Change Request Form Your high school schedule will be adjusted to accommodate your college class(es)
