Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. The abuse can encompass, but is not limited to:

Physical
Sexual
Financial
Emotional

2 Women a week are killed in the UK by a current or former partner (that's 1 every 3 days).
Domestic violence has a higher rate of repeat victimisation than any other crime.
On average, a woman is abused 35 times before her first call to the police.
