4 Reading It is important that the children have a wide range of story knowledge to help broaden their vocabulary. It is important to listen to your child read everyday

5 Library Day In Upper Early we follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme.
The adults listen to the children read every Tuesday/Friday. The adults ask questions about the story to assess the children’s comprehension of the story and their progress in reading. We will move children through the stages, depending on their reading abilities. It is important that a comment or a signature must be in the reading record, ready for books to be changed on a Tuesday and a Friday.

6 Curriculum overview Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication & Language Physical Development Literacy Mathematics Understanding of the World Expressive Arts and Design All these areas are planned for through our continuous provision throughout both the inside and outside classrooms.

7 PE The children will have a PE lesson once a week.
This is conducted and planned for by our Sports Coach. The children do not need to bring in a change of clothes, as their uniform will be suitable. There will also be sports day and other days/weeks dedicated to PE/sports.

8 Ditties Upper Early Years move onto ditties once they are secure in speed sounds set one Ditties are short, simple texts with 10– 20 words made up of set 1 Sounds and some Red Words (words with an uncommon spelling) The purpose of Ditties is for the children to apply the skills of sounds-blending and their knowledge of the speeds to reading fluently

9 Importance of sounds Sounds are vital in the development of reading and writing for your child It is important that these are recapped on a regular basis for both Upper and Lower Early Years

12 Dismissing/Collecting
Please may we ask that when entering school, Upper Early Years are to line up with their parents along the wall. When picking your child up, please can UEYs parents line up against the wall. Please be reminded that if you are changing the person who is collecting your child, this is to be done before 2pm, by ringing the office. If you wish somebody to collect your child who is not on the list, please also inform the office and add them to your list.

15 Award systems In Upper Early Years they receive stickers for good work. For behaviour we have a Reward Rainbow: 5 gold coins and then see management.

16 Uniform The children need to wear their uniforms clean and clearly labelled everyday. ONLY 1 or 2 key chains, no more please. They must not wear shoeslaces due to health and safety reasons. Children do not need to bring food into school as we will provide water and a snack.

17 Water Bottles Children are allowed to now bring water bottles into school. They must be clear, labelled and ONLY plain water is allowed. Children can access their bottle independently throughout the day.

18 Meeting teachers Please may we ask that if you wish to inform the teacher about an issue or raise a concern, that this is put in your child’s link book. All key workers will reply to any messages given in the link book on a daily basis. If you wish to make an appointment with your teacher, again please make this known within the link book, as unfortunately it is hard to address concerns at the door when welcoming the children in to school. Any letters that are being returned, must be in your child’s book bag, ready to be checked once in class. Your children are responsible for putting letters in the tray as bookbags won’t be checked by adults.
