2 Learning Goals: Students will describe their goals for life after high school Students will accurately list basic facts about post-secondary education and describe several reasons why post- secondary education is needed to achieve their goals. Define post-secondary: post (after), secondary (high-school)

3 Stay in School! Over a lifetime, a high school dropout working full time will earn $300,000 less than a high school graduate and more than $1 million less than a college graduate! High school dropouts are four times more likely than college graduates to be unemployed. Graduating from high school and a post- secondary institution will determine how well you live for the rest of your life. Every level of post-secondary education impacts the rest of your life: house, car, health, marriage, adventures, etc.

Determining career options: Interest inventories Aptitude inventories Taking a variety of courses Knowing the labor market Internships/Job Shadowing Post-secondary education/training How many students participated in the Parent/Guardian interview? I would encourage you to do so b/c it will give you an opportunity to have a conversation with your parent/guardian that you might not have had. Their experiences can help inform your decisions.

5 Your Post-secondary Goals
List two or three careers you are considering. Select one to focus on. Why are you considering this careers? What kind of post-secondary education will you need to enter this career? Ask students for examples of careers they are considering. Go to career cruising and explore the career profiles.
