2 Permit to work What is it? What does it do? How CHAMPS Permits can help?

3 What is a PTW system? It is the formalization of the procedures used to control certain types of potentially hazardous work. It is also a means of communication between permit issuers, plant supervisors, operators and those who carry out work. The end goal is to consider all possible hazards and plan accordingly.

4 OSHA 29 CFR (Code of Federal Regulation)
PART 1910 & PART 1926 Contains standards for permit- required conditions Outlines the minimum Supports job safety analysis. Confined spaces Two standards (Construction & General Industry) Is the only employer issued permit that OSHA requires Osha.gov / Accessed State permit requirements vary

Hot work Work at heights Excavation Scaffolding Hazardous material Asbestos, Lead, etc Hoisting Diving Radiation Electrified systems Fire hazard OSHA has standards for all of these topics

6 What does it do? Trains Personnel involved should understand the procedures involved in the PTW system including work suspension, shift changes etc. Personnel using devices and safety equipment should be trained in the use of those devices. Ex. harness, respirator etc. Identifies All potential hazards related to work to be performed at a specific location and time. PPE, emergency plans, related permits, isolations, MSDS, monitoring devices and calibration dates. Records All of the above data in a centralized document that can be displayed and shared with a work party and other need to know personnel. The monitoring of conditions throughout the work process. Period of permit validity Authorization signatures Permit close out

10 Permit Templates Will be displayed on equipment, work order tasks/steps and PM task/steps where this template is associated. Signifies that permits created from this template will have a condition present that requires constant monitoring. Ex. Gas levels. Will be displayed on equipment, work order tasks/steps and PM task/steps where this template is associated. Indicates that this permit template was approved by a CHAMPS Permit user that has the “Permit Approver” system role.

For every facility/industry having different needs and wanting to control exactly how permits are laid out this text editor provides an opportunity to create custom permits It is also easy to just paste in templates from a word document or from the OSHA website. b/owadisp.show_document?p_tabl e=STANDARDS&p_id=9801

12 Permits You can set the expiration date as far out as you would like but 24 hours is most common The permit issuer and holder are listed here along with there contact phone number.

13 Permits – Associated Documents tab
Displays the work order task(s)/step(s) that are using this permit.

14 EQ, PM Task, WO Task Safety tabs
WO Task, PM Task and EQ all contain a Safety tab similar to this one. Templates saved to an EQ will be carried over when creating a PM and eventually to any WO created from the PM. This section is empty until a permit is added via the “Add” button. In order to appear in the selection only permits that are in a WF state of “Open” and have been approved will appear.
