3 What’s going on? From September 2 – November 18, there will be no Commuter Rail service on Saturdays while we install Positive Train Control (PTC), a federally-mandated, safety control system that automatically reduces train speeds when needed and helps to avoid collisions.

4 What’s getting installed?
Nine miles of fiber optic cable Three 8’ by 10’ signal sheds. And upgrades to existing signals Twenty-two foot, ground to top, wood poles 200’ apart Six 30’ antennas

5 Why now? Our timeframe is tight because of a federal deadline. Every commuter rail line needs to be updated, and we need to take advantage of the summer and fall weather.

6 How do I get around? Use connecting T services From Needham Heights, Needham Center, and Needham Junction the Route 59 bus connects to Newton Highlands on the Green Line D Branch and to Watertown Square.

7 How do I get around? From West Roxbury, Highland, Bellevue, and Roslindale Village, Bus Routes 35, 36, and 37 connect to and from Forest Hills on the Orange Line, which provides connections to Ruggles and Back Bay. Customers who typically board at Hersey Station are encouraged to travel to Needham Junction or West Roxbury Station instead, as there are no connecting MBTA services at Hersey.

8 How much and where do I get a ticket?
Use your monthly commuter rail pass on bus and subway. Buy a bus fare for $2. (You can pay with cash when boarding.) Buy a subway fare for $2.75. (Pay by cash or credit at any subway station fare vending machine.) Planning on using both bus and subway? Get a CharlieCard in advance and pay just $2.25.* *Get a free transfer when using a CharlieCard. Senior/TAP customers pay half fare. Two children 11 and under ride free with 1 adult.
