For many centuries it has been a spiritual centre of Ukraine. The Cave Monastery was built almost 8 centuries ago by the monks Antoniy and Feodosiy. Being spread across the slopes of the Dnipro river, it is a unique array of golden-domed churches, underground labyrinths lined with mummified monks & elegant monastic buildings turned into museums. At the moment Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is also a residence of Metropolitan Volodymyr (Viktor Sabodan), the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and is opened for the visitors. The St. Sophia Cathedral
City tour to St. Sophia Cathedral During the tour you will visit Kiev’s most prominent places of interest and spend time observing the great St. Sophia Cathedral. St. Sophia Cathedral was founded in 1011 by Grand Prince of Kiev Volodymyr and completed by his son Yaroslav the Wise in Sophia stands for wisdom in Greek. All ambassadorial receptions, crowning of princes, signing of treaties were held in the church. The first school & library were also set up in the church. Of great historical and artistic value are the frescoes & mosaics of St. Sophia. City Tour to Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life of Ukraine
The open-air Museum of Ukrainian Folk Architecture, Rural Life and Folk Art stretches on the territory of 150 hectares of the picturesque Pirogovo village near Kyiv. Here one can admire the unique collection of folk architecture from all regions of Ukraine, feel the spirit of traditional Ukrainian life, visit folk crafts shops and a traditional restaurant serving Ukrainian cuisine. The museum's exhibition is divided in two departments: Architecture and Life in the Ukrainian Village before the Revolution and Folk Architecture and Life in the Socialist Village. The architectural and landscape panorama is supplemented by wooden churches and a collection of windmills. In summer and fall the museum hosts special craft festivals. A sightseeing tour through the Shaft - the ancient center of Chernigov includes a visit to: Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy Cathedral (XI century) – is a contemporary of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev. The main temple, which was used as a burial place for the Chernigov princes and clergy can be found here. The first chronicles date back to 1036. The Cathedral of St. Boris and Gleb (XII century) – is a burial place of the Chernigov princes of the dynasty of Svyatoslavovych. It was built by Prince David Svyatoslavovych and named after the Saints Boris and Gleb. It functions as a museum now. Chernigov Collegium (XVII century) - is the first secular secondary school at the Left-Bank of Ukraine built in the Ukrainian Baroque style. You can deepen into the history, while sitting in a classroom and looking at the best examples of folk and professional icons displayed at the exhibition. Odesa tour “The Catacombs“
During this excursion you will visit the main places of sightseeing in Odesa and spend more time for observation of Odesa Catacombs. They are situated in the village of Nerubaiskoye, originally created nearly 200 years ago during mining of building materials that were used to build the city. Currently it is the labyrinth of 2,500 kilometers with hundreds of entrances, exits, caves, and tunnels. During the World War II, in 1941, when German and Romanian army occupied Odesa during the war, the Soviet Military headquarters ordered to organize the partisan resistance. The Catacombs And Odesa catacombs were chosen as the camp for the unit of partisans. The provisions and weapons were enough there so the unit could stay underground for half a year. The museum possesses rich collection of archaeological relics of primitive and classical culture, relics of ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, besides there is a large and valuable collection of coins and medals. The best antique sculptures are exhibited in the vestibule of the building, specially built for the museum in The exhibits, represented in the first and second halls, belonged to the huge period: from the appearance of the first men to the second millennium B.C.
