1 It is known as „a city in the city“. All buildings are connected to each other via the underground paths. The complex is well integrated in the city of New York. There are 19 commercial buildings in Midtown Manhattan. It was named after the super-rich John D. Rockefeller, who leased the land from Columbia University in 1928. This place is well-known for its Christmas tree, ice rink, Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Radio City Music Hall and many shops and dining facilities. It is a great place for tourists to visit at any time of year. NEWYORKCITY The Rockefeller Center

2 It was founded in April 1880. It presents over 200 opera performances every year. There are a large orchestra, a chorus, children's choir, ballet company and many solo singers. Many musicians and singers have become famous while singing at The Metropolitan Opera, for example Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo. NEWYORKCITY

3 The Immigration Museum Over 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island from 1892 to 1954. People can take a ferry to visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. 5 St Patrick's Cathedral It is situated across from Rockefeller Center. It is the largest Catholic cathedral in the USA. Its two spires are also one of the most spectacular architectural sights. It was built in the neo-gothic style. It was completed in 1878. There are numerous altars and stained glass windows, and a giant organ with over 7,300 pipes. 6 The Empire State Building NEWYORKCITY There are 102 floors. It is a landmark and an icon of American culture. The Empire State Building is the 3rd tallest skyscraper in the USA and the 15th tallest in the world. Its full height is 443m. The building has 85 floors of commercial and office rooms. There is an indoor and outdoor observation deck on the 86th floor.

7 The Chrysler Building It is located on the east side of Manhattan. It is 319 m high. For a short time, it was the world's tallest building before it was overtaken by the Empire State Building in 1931. However, the Chrysler Building is still the world's tallest brick building. After the destruction of the World Trade Center, it is again the second tallest building in New York City. The building is constructed of masonry, with a steel frame, and metal cladding. NEWYORKCITY

8 The Brooklyn Bridge The bridge was finished in 1883 and it connects two parts of NYC: Manhattan & Brooklyn. It is the largest suspension bridge in the world. It is 1.8 km long. It is one of the most magnificent landmarks in New York City. The two towers are 84m tall and there are many cables attached to these towers. It became a national monument in 1964. NEWYORKCITY

9 Central Park Central Park It is a huge park spreading over 340 hectares in the center of Manhattan. There are several lakes, fountains, theaters, ice rinks, tennis courts, baseball fields, many playgrounds and other facilities for people to relax and have fun. NEWYORKCITY There is also the Zoo and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During weekends, cars are not allowed to enter the park. The Central Park is an oasis in the hectic life of NYC.

10 Greenwich Village It is an important place of bohemian culture. It is known for its artistic residents and the alternative culture. Thanks to the progressive attitudes of many of its inhabitants, it has traditionally been a place of new movements and ideas - political, artistic, cultural... Many famous artists and writers lived in old houses in Greenwich Village. There are a lot of small shops, cafés, art galleries and theatres in this area. NEWYORKCITY

11 Metropolitan Museum of Art There are more than 2 million works of art made over thousands of years. It is one of the largest art museums in the world.
