Socorro Independent School District
Parent Information  Session: DNA Initiative

What is DNA? A district initiative geared towards creating transformational, digital age instruction and increase student achievement by providing a 1:1 learning environment. Direction 1: Safe and Supportive learning environment Direction 2: College and Career Readiness The Digitally Nurturing Academics initiative is Socorro ISD's way of exposing students to college and career readiness skills. The careers that our students will have do not exist yet and we want to prepare them to be critical thinkers, collaborators, creators and effective communicators. The initiative is geared to create transformational, digital age instruction and increase student achievement. The initiative is driven by two of the district's Strategic Directions; safe and supportive learning environment and college and career readiness.

History of DNA A brief description …  What does digital age instruction mean?  Digital age instruction is tailored to the individual student and their learning needs, breaking down the walls of the classroom and school and taking learning to the next level. Instruction in the digital age is student-centered,incorporates web-based components, and adaptive. We started the DNA Initiative at Socorro HS and next school year they will be fully implementing DNA at all grade levels. Each year a new high school was added to DNA. For school year, all high schools will be part of DNA.

Digital Learning                                                                                                                                                                                        Digital learning can serve as the catalyst for transformational change in education.”  - Jeb Bush, Former Governor of Florida Our mission is to provide support for SISD teachers and students in creating digital learning environments that transform learning for all students through dynamic, engaging learning experiences.

Why?                                                                                                                                                                                       Discuss how Operation Future Ready and the 4Cs(Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical thinking) support the DNA initiative.  Operation Future Ready is Team SISD’s commitment to ensure the district remains at the forefront of 21st century education and the conversion to digital learning. It is more than a technology initiative—it is about a hands-on approach to the teaching and learning process that will provide students with the skills needed to be globally competitive. Through Operation Future Ready, which is aligned to the federal ConnectED initiative, Team SISD is investing in technology to advance teaching and learning, fully training educators to utilize new resources, and offering more technological devices for student use.
