2 UK Veterinary Summer Studentship Program
Summary of the program: The UK Veterinary Summer Studentship program will provide funding for summer studentships (up to 10 weeks in duration) to be undertaken in any BBSRC eligible institute during the summer vacation. The research project must be within the remit of BBSRC, and priority will be given to projects that will provide research experience in the following areas:  Physiology and Pathology of plants, animals and microbes  Agriculture and Food Security  Maths, Statistics and Computation  Interdisciplinary research Applications from veterinary undergraduates wishing to conduct research projects in a BBSRC eligible institute that is different to their own are highly encouraged. We will also consider applications from veterinary students wishing to conduct a research project in their own university. Length of the project: 10 weeks Deadline: Monday 20th March, 2017.

3 UK Veterinary Summer Studentship Program
Student Eligibility To be eligible for a summer studentship, veterinary undergraduate students need to be: in the middle years of their first degree studies registered for a veterinary degree at a UK university expected to obtain a first or upper second class UK honours degree (or equivalent) What funding is provided? The value of a summer studentship is £2,500 to cover a minimum stipend of £200 per week to the student and a contribution towards research expenses during the placement. Application process: A list of potential supervisors will be circulated next week with the application forms. Students can contact a supervisor on the list to discuss potential projects or identify their own preferred supervisor. Anything else? An annual conference will take place every year which will bring together research interested veterinary undergraduates from all UK veterinary schools as a single cohort. The expectation will be that all who have undertaken BBSRC-STARS funded summer studentships will attend.

4 INSPIRE Summer Studentships
What projects will be considered? This scheme will accept applications in any area of research e.g. basic science, clinical research, one health, translational, humans and animals! Projects can be undertaken in any UK university. Length of the project? At least 4 weeks What funding is provided? There are 5 awards to be made to vet students, each of a £1000 stipend for a project of at least 4 weeks duration Any scheme specific guidelines? Decisions will be weighted towards funding the best (achievable) projects but will also include an assessment of your academic CV.  Deadline: TBC but will be in March 2017.

5 Beaufort Cottage Educational Trust Summer Scholarships
What projects will be considered? Equine research, relevant to the Thoroughbred. This can include basic science, clinical research, AWB etc.... Projects can be undertaken in any UK university. Length of the project? 10 weeks What funding is provided? The value of a summer studentship is £2,500 to cover a minimum stipend of £200 per week to the student and a contribution towards research expenses during the placement. Deadline: Monday 20th March, 2017. Anything else? You will be expected to present your research to the Beaufort Cottage Educational Trust in Newmarket Sept-Dec 2017 (travel expenses will be provided).

6 Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship Scheme (IRIS)
What projects will be considered? Applications to undertake interdisciplinary research projects in the University of Bristol. Length of the project? 8 weeks What funding is provided? £270 per week. Students must work full time on the project and should not carry out other paid work or hold other scholarships in parallel. Any scheme specific guidelines? must be co-supervised by an academic member of staff in the school or department in which the student is registered for their degree (home school or department) and an academic member of staff from another school or department, with a different research background to that of the home supervisor.  Applications for research projects co-supervised by academic members of staff in different faculties are particularly welcomed. Deadline: Friday 17th March, 2017. Anything else? A poster must be submitted at the end of the project and students must be available to participate in a presentation event in w/c 25 September 2017.
