5 Wales Wales is situated in Great Britain.
It is washed by the Irish Sea Sea and by the Celtic Sea. More than half of the area is s surrounded by the sea. The climate here is rather cool and changeable hangeable

6 The Flag of Wales The national flag of Wales is called the Red Dragon. It isn`t on the Union flag because England and Wales were united earlier.

7 Historical referance In 1284 Edward I united Wales with England. The Welsh needed a new prince and the king made his own baby son Prince of Wales(later Edward II). From that time the oldest son of the ruling king or queen has usually been made Prince of Wales. Nowadays Prince of Wales is P Prince Charles as he is the e eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II II. c.

8 St. David The patron saint of Wales is St David.
The national day is celebrated on 1st March, in honour of St David. It has been celebrated since the 12th century.

On the 1st of March some people wear the national costume with tall black hats and long dresses.

10 The Symbols of Wales The national symbols of Wales are the leek, the daffodil and the harp.

12 Population The population of Wales is about 3 million people .
About 75 per cent of people live in towns. Wales has two officially recognized languages: English and Welsh (one of the Celtic languages). Nowadays about 50,000 speak Welsh, especially in the north of the country and it`s the first language for them. Welsh is taught side by side with English in schools.

13 Cardiff It is an ancient settlement. It became town in 1905.

21 Swansea Swansea is the second largest city in Wales where mainly steel production can be found.

Wales is a land of green fields, forests and farms . It is also a highland country of old, hard rocks.

Pistyll Rhaeadr is the highest waterfall in Wales. It`s 74 metres.

34 Castles inWales Wales is "the land of castles». There`re 641 castles there. The Normans were the first to build castles here. The English built great castles to protect themselves. Harlech Caerphilly Castle

35 Caernafon Castle Edward I began to build a new stone castle in North Wales in Here his son (Edward II) was born and was created Prince of Wales in 1301. Here Prince Charles became Prince of Wales in 1969.

36 The land of songs Wales is often called "the land of song". The Welsh people are fond of folk music, poetry, singing, drama. There are a lot of choirs in Wales.

37 Eisteddfod Eisteddfod is the largest and oldest festival of Welsh culture, which has been since the 15th century. It is held every year in different areas of Wales. It includes competitions in prose, poetry and singing.

38 Rugby Rugby is the national game of Wales. The rules of the game are quite difficult. A team consists of fifteen players. The game is played with an egg-shaped ball.
