3 Abraham Lincoln on Education
The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.

4 Spiritual Warfare on Display
We are living “in such a time as this” The battle belongs to the Lord! We are his instruments in the battle! The nation is divided along theological, philosophical and worldview alignment. The forces of evil embodied in progressivism, postmodernism, scientific naturalism over and against religious liberty.

5 We are living in “such a time as this” A clash of worldviews over Trump Cabinet appointments
2009 Cabinet votes: 9 of 15 unanimous, 1 carryover from GWB Admin Hillary 94-2, Solis 80-17, Holder 75-21, Geithner 60-34 Geithner admitted to tax cheating (30 GOP no votes) Pres. Obama had 12 confirmed as of 2/12/2009 Two positions had prior nominee withdrawals The other, Hilda Solis, had tax issues & advocated expanding illegal immigrant worker status In contrast, 2017: None of the 9 approved have been unanimous Mattis 98-1, Haley 96-4, Chao 93-6, Kelly 88-11, Pompeo 66-32 Tillerson 56-43, Sessions 52-47, Price 52-47 DeVos 51-50, Pence tie-break vote 6 Offices still unfilled – Treasury, HUD, Commerce, Interior, VA, Labor Ben Carson and Wilbur Ross will face opposition

6 More Hostility from the Left
EPA nominee Scott Pruitt, is being sued, Senate Democrats boycotted the Committee vote March for “Science” on Earth Day Militancy of the Climate Change, Global Warming alarmists in spite of increasing evidence against their view Google, “Tony Heller”

7 Worldview Clashes Unprecedented hostility of the media against Trump and Republicans Coarsening of language, decline in civility, nationwide anti-Trump violence: Senate Decorum Rule enforced against Sen. Warren Violence at Berkeley over Breitbart Speaker Pres. Obama: “I am heartened by the anti-Trump protests” Protestors outside a DC public school confront Betsy DeVos Use of Profanity in Book Titles Pro-Life: Reinstatement of “Mexico City” Policy of 1984 Pro-abortion clergy/defunding of Planned Parenthood Pres Trump wants churches to be able to endorse candidates Reversal of the Johnson Amendment of the 1950’s Boy Scouts cave to transgendered ”boy” And…..Immigration..the fight over separation of powers

8 Presidential Power Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952:
Whenever the President finds that any entry of any aliens or any class of aliens in the US would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation and for such period as he shall deem necessary suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he many deem to be appropriate.

9 President Trump’s Immigration Executive Order
120 day temporary prohibition on all refugee immigration into the U.S. including green card holders. Places limit of 50,000 refugees entering the U.S. per year. 90 day temporary ban on all immigration from: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The same 7 countries that Pres. Obama designated for “enhanced vetting” in 2015/16. Exemptions given to Sec. of State and DHS Western Washington Federal District Court Judge, James Robart, placed a block on the EO on Feb 4. Robart represented immigrants and refugees in his private practice before being appointed by Pres. Bush in 2004 Trump admin has appealed and asked 9th Circuit Court for an emergency stay of Robart block. A 3-Judge 9th Circuit panel denied the “stay” on Feb 9 No Constitutional Ruling has been adjudicated.

10 Trump’s rationale Why the EO?
Several lethal attacks in Europe by those entering countries with “refugee” status. ISIS and other terrorist organizations have announced that they intend to use refugee status as a means to carry out future attacks. 50,000 was the annual refugee figure in the first 7 years of President Obama’s tenure; it was only increased to 100,000 in the last 12 months.

11 Not the First Time this has occurred
During WWII, President Franklin Roosevelt argued that Jewish refugees posed a serious threat to national security. Drawing on fears that Nazi spies could be hiding among them, the country limited the number of German Jews who could be admitted to 26,000 annually. It is estimated that for most of the Hitler era, less than 25 percent of that quota was actually filled.

12 President Jimmy Carter
Following the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, during which the US embassy in Tehran was stormed and 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days, President Carter cut diplomatic relations with Iran, imposed sanctions on Iran, and banned Iranians from entering the country.

13 EO problems and 9th Circuit Nonsense
Trump ruling was done in haste and did not clearly delineate the various immigrant classifications Admitted not knowing how “to interpret its own order” in the 9th Circuit hearing 9th Circuit’s 4 rulings: 1) Foreign nationals holding green cards in the 7 countries were barred from re-entry – Court used cases in WA and MN to give state AG’s power to act on behalf of ALL immigrants 2) Had Constitutional Authority to review the EO 3) Refused to limit the injunction against the EO to green card holders or to previously admitted aliens who are temporarily abroad and wish to enter the U.S. Cited these folk have “potential claims” regarding “possible due process rights” even of illegal aliens!

14 9th Circuit Ruling 9th Circuit’s 4 rulings (cont’d)
3) Made no distinctions among those affected, extending “potential due process rights” to all citizens from these 7 jihadist torn states even for the first time. 4) Made the astonishing statement that it would review Trump’s 2016 campaign statements in determining whether the EO violated the establishment clause of the 1st Amendment!

15 Dangerous Implication of 9th Circuit Ruling
“The Government has pointed to NO evidence that any alien from any of the countries named in the order has perpetrated a terrorist attack in the U.S.” Is this the standard for implementing heightened security measures????

16 Current Status Trump being charged as being a racist, bigot, sociopath, vile, and even worse. Major media not doing its job Comments on webpages are mostly emotionally charge assaults Clear and scary that very people read His reply: “See you in Court” Many (such as WSJ) calling Trump to rewrite the Order

17 What is illegal Immigration?
What exactly is “illegal immigration”? At its simplest, it is the movement of people from one area into another, such that this movement violates laws and regulations in place at any given time at the destination—laws intended to govern such movement and enforced by the political powers holding sway over the area.  - Associates for Biblical Research

18 Immigration Issue Necessity of Borders
National Identity requires specified boundaries; political sovereignty changes across boundaries

19 Nations and Boundaries in the Bible
Genesis 10 – gestation of nations after the Tower of Babel 10:19: “The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.” Establishment of Borders sanctioned by God with this injunction: People should not simply cross a border without permission from authorities

20 Immigrants in the Bible
Several Hebrew terms affirm the reality of people living in a land other than their own: Sojourners Strangers Foreigners Aliens

21 The Sojourner גֵּר (“ger”) 92 OT occurrences
Closely related to גּוּר (“guwr”) used 194 times. To dwell for a period of time without original rights but can inherit them from parents.

22 The “ger” OT occurrences are descriptive not necessarily prescriptive
In the law given to Moses, Exodus 12:48 – If a stranger (ger) sojourns (gur) with you and celebrates the passover to the Lord….he shall be like a native to the land” Leviticus 19:34

23 The Foreigner נֶכֶר(nikriy) The “Foreigner” 47 occurrences
Carries negative connotation compared to “ger” “Nokriy” treated differently than “ger” Scripture does not spell out differences

24 Conclusion There is biblical support for policies which preferentially give immigrants who show a willingness to do what it takes to integrate into and fully participate in the life of a society, rights and privileges which do not accrue to those who do not. The claim that is is unjust or unloving to withhold any privileges from those unwilling to do certain things appears to be a ross misapplication of “social justice”.
