5 The Huntsville City School District sponsored our first Summer Feeding Program in the Summer of 2013.

6 Huntsville City was the only school district in Alabama to provide 3 free hot meals a day to all children ages 18 and under.

7 Huntsville City School District served 98,455 students during the Summer of We served 3 times as many hot meals as the entire state of Alabama combined!

8 In October of 2013, the Huntsville City School District decided to take advantage of a new program offered through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. This “At Risk Supper Program” allows a district to provide a free supper to students who attend a Title 1 School which has an afterschool program that last at least an hour. Rolling Hills Elementary was the first school to try the program, and they served a total of 793 suppers during the month of October. Students enjoy a hot supper at Ridgecrest Elementary

9 Schools participating in the “At Risk Supper Program” are:
We now have a total of 7 schools participating in the “At Risk Supper Program” offered through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. We are serving 1250 suppers a day which means we are on pace to serve 20,000 free hot suppers during the month of March. Furthermore, we are the only school district in Alabama participating in this program! Schools participating in the “At Risk Supper Program” are: McDonnell Elementary Ridgecrest Elementary Rolling Hills Elementary Dawson Elementary Providence Elementary Highlands Elementary Westlawn Middle School

11 Lessons designed to promote sound eating habits and a healthy lifestyle among students
Centered around Healthy Hunger Free Kids act-legislation passed in 2010 to reduce hunger and at the same time, reduce childhood obesity Let’s MOVE!-initiative to increase physical activity

13 Hands on Learning 4th graders at Providence Elementary use food models to learn about the five food groups

14 National and Regional Recognition of the Huntsville City School Child Nutrition Program
MLK Elementary Principal Jennifer Doulthit and CNP Supervisor Winifred Malone accept the 2013 “Best Practices Award” from USDA representative Steve Horton. MLK received one of only 120 awards given out in the entire nation.

15 MLK Principal Jennifer Doulthit speaks to media at the “End Hunger in Alabama Day” while Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture Mr. John McMillan looks on. It was also an opportunity to celebrate their 2013 USDA Best Practices Award.

16 Ms. McCaulley and Mr. Birney with 2 of the Titan Cheerleaders.
Butler High School won the 2013 “Purity Dairies Titan’s of Taste Breakfast Challenge” and received a check for $5000 and a Pep Rally with a Tennessee Titan football player, 3 of their cheerleaders, and their team mascot T-Rac. Marc Marianni of the Tennessee Titan’s with Butler High School Principal Sanchella Graham Ms. McCaulley and Mr. Birney with 2 of the Titan Cheerleaders.
