1 Monday and Tuesday, November 25 and 26
I can revise a text in order to make cohesive meaning. I can describe archetypal images used in literature and film. I can create a song, poem, or written work about my hero. Monday and Tuesday, November 25 and 26

2 Bell Ringer 9. I knew that it took about eight hours for the tides to change from high to low, sixteen hours for a complete cycle. If the writer were to delete the phrase “sixteen hours for a complete cycle” from the preceding sentence, the essay would primarily loose a detail that: Shows how the narrator’s interests are different from the mother’s interests Contradicts a point made earlier in the paragraph Helps establish the setting for the essay Displays the narrator’s knowledge of tides

3 Justification The best answer is D because the detailed information about how long it takes to complete a cycle of tides clearly shows that the narrator has specific knowledge of tides.

4 10. Often, my brother and I, joined our mother on her adventures into tidal lands.
No change brother, and I, brother, and I brother and I

5 Justification The best answer is J because no punctuation is needed to separate the subject of the sentence (my brother and I) from the verb (joined).

6 Part 1 Think of a hero (i.e. Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Widow, etc). Who do you feel you are most like? Write the name of the hero at the top of your paper. List characteristics you believe make him/her a hero List how you are like your hero

7 Part 2 Find someone who has listed the same hero. Compare your list of characteristics. You may want to add to your own list. Now find someone who has a different hero listed. Again, compare your lists of characteristics.

8 Part 3 Group characteristics of a hero

9 Part 4 On your paper, make a T-chart.
As each video clip plays, write the character’s name on one side of the chart. On the other side, write the heroic characteristics that character displays. Think about our class discussion.

17 Part 5 Fold a paper into 4 squares: Square 1- superhero
Square 2- well know hero (i.e. Mother Teresa, Military, etc.) Square 3- community hero (i.e. teacher, coach, police officer) Square 4- you In each square write/draw a representation of that person and include reason(s) why they are a hero

18 Part 6 Read the lyrics of the song “I Need a Hero”.
Write the traits of the hero seen in the song. Now, think about the discussion today and write a poem, song, or paragraph about your hero.
