Library/Media Center Hours
Monday -Thursday 7:30-3:30 (Closed 2:40 on Fridays)

Media Center Rules 1. No eating, drinking, or loud talking are allowed. 2. Students must have a signed agenda book or pass to come to the media center UNLESS they are here with a group. 3.Students should have their IDs scanned when they arrive and when they leave, unless they are here with a group. 4. Students may only print school-related work. 5. Students may not access social media sites. They may not use personal .

Newspapers The media center gets 10 copies of the Burlington County Times Monday through Friday. Old newspapers are kept for a week, then recycled.

Magazines The media center receives about 25
magazine titles. The rack is located to the right of the librarian’s office, on the wall.

Videotapes and DVDs DVDs and videotapes are available for teachers to use in their classrooms. DVDs are located in the librarian’s office.

Checkouts Students may check out up to 3 books at a time.
The books must be returned in 3 weeks or renewed. Students with overdue books will receive notices in first period class. Students with be required to return or pay for all books before receiving report cards and schedules.

The web- based computer catalog is called Follett Destiny
The web- based computer catalog is called Follett Destiny. You can access it from anywhere in the school or from home.

F HEM The fiction section is located to the RIGHT of the librarian’s office, next to the magazines. Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by the first 3 letters of the author’s last name.

Paperbacks PB STI Paperback books have PB on the spine followed by the first 3 letters of the author’s last name. There are 2 paperback racks. The one by the librarian’s office has books whose authors’ last names begin with the letters A-L. The rack by the computer room has books whose authors’ last names begin with the letters M-Z. .

The Dewey Decimal System
Our media center uses the Dewey Decimal System of classification. Most school and public libraries in the United States are arranged in this manner. The Dewey numbering starts with the 000’s and 100’s. These numbers begin on the far left of the room as you enter the media center.

The Dewey Decimal numbers continue to the 990’s, at the other end of the media center.
Books in the 990 section are about Australia, New Zealand, islands in the Pacific and Antarctica.

The call number will tell you where the book is located in the media center.
To find a book, you will have to go to the online catalog and key in the book’s title, author or subject. A list of books will appear. Each book will have a call number

In some places, the Dewey Decimal ranges are indicated on the shelves.

Also, on the end of each book case, there is a sign indicating the books that are on that shelf.

Copier There is a copier for student use in the media center.
Students must have permission to make copies Please see Mrs. Angelo if you need help operating the machine.

Biographies B WAS The biography section is located on the left side of the media center as you enter, near the reference section Biographies are arranged alphabetically by the first 3 letters of the subject’s last name. B Mar B CLI

The left side of this bookcase has all of the short stories and all of the career books. The right side of this bookcase has biography books, last names Ken through Zuc.

Many poetry books have a call number of 811.
This books of poems has a call number of 811 She. It would be found on the left side of this bookcase.

Career C 340 Law Books about career planning and jobs are located near the Reference section, and are grouped in Dewey decimal order. All of the books in this section have a “C” above the call number

Story Collection SC POE
Collections of short stories are shelved next to the career books, across from the oversized. The letters SC on top of the call number indicates that a book belongs on the story collection shelf.

Graphic Novels Manga books and other graphic novels are located on the shelf next to the oversized books as well as on spinning book racks on top of the atlas stand

Because manga books are quickly read, you may check out 5 of these at once.

Oversized OV 745 Has Oversized books are located near the Reference section. They have an OV on top Of the call number on the book spine.

Reference R 031 WOR The Reference section is located to your left as you enter the media center. Reference books have an R or REF above the call number. Reference books may not be checked out.

Types of Reference Books
Types of reference books include atlases, encyclopedias, and dictionaries.

We have 1 globe, located by the computer room.

Fire Exits. Students should exit behind the Reference section in case of fire drills or emergencies.

Put your name on your worksheet
Put your name on your worksheet. Use the Destiny catalog to answer questions. When you have finished answering questions using Destiny, log off of the computer. Take your paper and pencil and walk around the media center
