15 Applying to College Senior Packets will be distributed to all juniors by the end of the school year in June Begin thinking of two teachers who will write recommendation letters College essays should be error–free for submission (edit carefully) Choose five colleges including “Safety”, “Realistic” & “Reach” Individual Senior Meetings will be scheduled for every student to discuss post-secondary plans beginning end of September Apply EARLY to increase chances of acceptance

16 Common Application The Common Application is a not–for–profit membership organization that, since its founding over 35 years ago, has been committed to providing reliable services that promote equity, access, and integrity Serves students, member institutions, and secondary schools Membership open to colleges and universities that promote access by evaluating students using a holistic selection process There are currently applications to over 500 members institutions. Students can link Naviance to the Common Application

When should the SAT or ACT be taken? Junior Year (depends on Math class) How many times? Usually 2-3 but ONLY if you practice/study How should I study? Use PSAT results to gauge weaknesses, use free study books, Question of the Day ( What is the cost/How do I register? SAT: $54.50 (with essay) or $43. ACT: $58.50 (with essay) or $ 2 Fee waivers available for free/reduced lunch students SAT Subject Tests are sometimes required for highly competitive schools. The college will indicate which tests are recommended.

20 Essay and Teacher Recommendation
Look at topics and begin brainstorming now Senior English Teachers will address college essay Receive feedback from teachers, parents, etc. and edit and rewrite several times Answer honestly Let the reader get to know who you are Can make a difference if college is undecided Recommendations Check if required 2-3 minimum Best choice: Teacher who knows you personally Teacher related to college major At least 1 academic teacher Coach or advisor is a good secondary letter

Extracurricular, church, local community Quality participation in a few grades 9-12 Leadership roles a ++ Cinnaminson Activities will appear on transcript Outside activities can be highlighted on resume in Naviance Community Service is important for scholarships Sports Do I want to play Division I, II, or III? Must register with NCAA ( for DI or DII. Intramurals- no registration needed

Core Courses: College Prep. Courses in English, Math, Lab Science, Social Studies, World Language Check the NCAA Eligibility Center for approved Cinnaminson courses. Minimum GPA of a 2.0 with higher GPA requirements for Division I Visit Apply online during Junior Year NCAA Coordinator: Mr. Repsher

23 RCBC & Two Year Colleges
Career Associates Degrees Allow you to go straight into the workforce Examples: Culinary Arts, Dental Hygiene, Fire Science, Health Sciences, Radiography AA or AS to Transfer to a 4 Year College Complete basic course requirements for the first half of your bachelor’s degree Check for Articulation Programs with 4 year colleges: RCBC 3+1 Program for selected majors Meet with Transfer Advisor at end of freshman year

24 RCBC Spring Ahead Program
Informational meeting by RCBC advisor (Fall) Complete RCBC Application Online (FREE) Take Accuplacer Test at CHS (Winter) Bus Trip to RCBC to review test results and schedule classes for fall (Spring) Important to participate even if RCBC is “safety” school

25 RCBC CAP Program Students enrolled in RCBC CAP designated courses may earn RCBC credits for a fee (approx. $150 per 3 credit course) Must enroll by deadline (mid-October) Student must earn “C” or better in course CAP payments are nonrefundable CAP credits may or may not be accepted Students’ responsibility to contact college regarding their policies Students must request a transcript from RCBC to their 4 year college in late July/August

26 NJ STARS Scholarship program
New Jersey residents that covers the cost of tuition at New Jersey's 19 community colleges. Top 15 percent of their high school class from junior year Five (5) semesters of eligibility for NJ STARS. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA Does not cover fees, books, or remedial, pre-college courses

27 NJ STARS II Scholarship towards a Bachelor's Degree
New Jersey community college NJ STARS students who earn their associate's degrees with a grade point average or better are eligible Up to a $2,500 per year NJ STARS II scholarship Any New Jersey public or independent NJ TAG- participating four-year college or university.

Strong Reading and Math Skills Hands – on Specialized Fields SAT/ACT not required – many required aptitude tests and/or reading & math tests Completion of program leads to certification or licensure Apprenticeship are obtained through unions Consider career programs at RCBC or BCIT
