1 Research on Behaviour in Sustainable Mobility and Logistics
results of the "Captain for one Day" Conference September 2016 conference organised by:

2 Need for better insights in transport behaviour
Transport policy makers recognise the need to have better insight into mobility and logistics behaviour in a changing society in order to design and implement effective policies for sustainable transport. Quite a lot of knowledge available, but also significant knowledge gaps detected.

4 General Directions Paper
“Captain for one day” Source Paper Position Papers some 80 participating experts: representatives of state and regional governments, innovation agencies, funding agencies, RTO’s, transport companies as well as scientists, consultants, and other experts. General Directions Paper Mobility behaviour in a changing society Behavioural aspects of innovations in mobility and logistics

5 Mobility behaviour - actors and groups of actors
Numerous actors, various roles Generational, ethnic, socio-economic and cultural differences Individual behaviour Behaviour in groups Behaviour in/of organisations Behaviour in contexts sometimes larger than the transport domain

6 A changing society - contextual trends
Demographic changes Spatial developments Environmental concerns Concerns over safety, security, and privacy Attitudes to consumption and ownership Technology-enabled societal trends

7 A. Mobility behaviour in a changing society
How to provide fair and sustainable mobility for different groups with diverging interests, means and resources, in the face of significant contextual changes? How to reach, address and engage with individuals and different stakeholder groups to enable effective transport policies? How to use behavioural insights shape the future role of governments regarding mobility and logistics in an uncertain and changing world?

8 Behavioural aspects and innovations (in transport)
Technological advances: increased connectivity, abundant information Fertile environment for technological and societal innovations Drivers for innovation: within and outside the transport sector, not always aligned

9 B. Behavioural aspects of innovations in mobility and logistics
How to develop suitable framework conditions, ex ante assessments, implementation and deployment approaches to realise most promising outcomes from transport innovations? What are the significant behavioural aspects of the acceptance and deployment of innovations that can contribute to sustainable mobility and logistics? What are the relevant behavioural aspects of automation and other disruptive technical and service innovations in mobility and logistics?
