3 Meet Barack Obama Obama was born in Hawaii on August 14th,1961 to a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas. Growing up he was also raised by his grandfather and grandmother. Obama attended Occidental College and then transferred to Columbia University. After graduation he moved to Chicago Obama was the first A.A. president of the Harvard Law review. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Obama worked as an organizer to help communities. In 2004 he was elected to the U.S. senate. Obama was elected to the Illinois state senate in 1996. In 2011 , he announced he would run for president. Obama is the first African American president. in 2008 he won.

4 Meet Mitt Romney Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12th, 1947. Romney was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Romney has been married to his wife since 1969. They have five sons and 18 grandchildren. He spent most of his life as a businessman In he for and was elected governor of Massachusetts. This is not the first time he has ran for president. In 2008 he lost to McCain. When he was Governor he was near heath care reform. In 1999 he was hired as CEO.

5 Barack Obama Mitt Romney
Believes in the so-called Buffett Rule, which asks millionaires and billionaires to pay more in taxes. The rule would require people making more than $1 million a year to pay at least 30% of investment income in taxes. He believes no family earning less than $250,000 should face higher taxes. Here are some of his ideas about taxes: -Keep tax rates the same, but apply the top tax rate for individuals making more than $250,000 a year. –Cut the corporate tax rate (the percentage of earnings that companies pay to the government) from 35% to 28%, except for manufacturers, which would have a 25% rate. Obama believes in less government spending. He says he wants to help the economy by investing in education, clean energy and companies that bring jobs back to the U.S. As president Obama pushed a plan to rescue the U.S. automotive industry. The plan helped save 1 million jobs. One of Obama’s key goals is to boost the economy by helping small businesses. Mitt Romney Mitt Romney believes the government should be smaller, simpler and less regulation over the economy, in order to reduce costs and make the U.S. more competitive. He says his goals will encourage growth and innovation businesses. One of Romney’s key goals is to boost the economy includes investing in energy to bring more revenue and jobs. Believes lower tax rates will encourage businesses and economic growth. He says the U.S. government should reduce spending to allow for more tax cuts. Here are some of the tax cuts he proposes: -Cut tax rates for individual income by 20%. -Eliminate the tax on capital gains for families making below $200,000 a year. (A capital gain is the amount of money you make when you buy or sell something, such as a stock or property.)

7 Barack Obama Obama served as an Illinois State Senator for eight years. In 2004, he was elected to the U.S. Senate. At the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Obama gave a speech that captured listeners' attention and helped him gain enough recognition to begin vying for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. On January 20, 2009, history was made when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States—and the first African American to hold the nation's highest office. Two million people stood outside the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., to hear Obama's Inaugural speech. Obama hopes to win a second term in office in Election Joe Biden is Obama’s vice-presidential running mate.
