17 GCSE PE Enjoy the subject and are interested in taking PE into further education. Very good practically and currently in SET 1. Pupils must also consistently take part in extra curricular activities’ and have represented the school in at least one sport/activity. This course is practically weighted (60%) so it vital that pupils excel in this area. Pupils also have to study theoretical aspects associated with PE and Sport and will have to sit a final exam at the end of the 2 year course. The theoretical aspect is worth 40% of the final grade.

18 BTEC Sport Enjoy PE and are thinking of taking it on in further education or into employment. Suitable for pupils who are thinking of opting into the BTEC route through college as opposed to A-Levels. Split into 4 units, one of which is a 1 hour external online exam. This is a difficult course and pupils need to be both academic and also have a good practical ability. Pupils who are consistently achieving grade C’s in all their subjects would achieve the equivalent of a Pass at BTEC Level. This course requires pupils to constantly work to deadlines, complete many assignments and involves pupils working independently and in their own time. GCSE PE A course for those pupils who enjoy the subject and are interested in taking PE into further education. This course is better suited to those pupils who are very good practically and currently in SET 1. Pupils must also consistently take part in extra curricular activities’ and have represented the school in at least one sport/activity. This course is practically weighted (60%) so it vital that pupils excel in this area. Pupils also have to study theoretical aspects associated with PE and Sport and will have to sit a final exam at the end of the 2 year course. The theoretical aspect is worth 40% of the final grade. Practical Breakdown Pupils are assessed in 4 sports/activities and are marked out of 10. Pupils also have to complete an oral interview/presentation focused on one of these 4 activities. Pupils have to create and complete a six week training programme as part of their practical exam. BTEC Sport. A course which is for those pupils who enjoy PE and are thinking of taking it on in further education or into employment. This course is more vocational and is suited to those pupils who are thinking of opting into the BTEC route through college as opposed to A-Levels. The BTEC Sport course is split into 4 units, one of which is a 1 hour external online exam. This is a difficult course and pupils need to be both academic and also have a good practical ability. Pupils who are consistently achieving grade C’s in all their subjects would achieve the equivalent of a Pass at BTEC Level. This course requires pupils to constantly work to deadlines, complete many assignments and involves pupils working independently and in their own time.

19 Engineering Enjoy practical work and are keen to develop new skills.
Be enthusiastic and prepared to work with tools and equipment with regards to safety at all times. Be capable of independent learning and work as part of a team. Vetted for this option by the technology department in response to how well you have worked, applied yourself and achieved in technology during year 9.

20 Music GCSE Music : Focuses on general musicianship – performing, composing and musical appreciation. BTEC Music: Focuses on the business side of the music industry, roles within the music industry and music technology. You cannot choose both these subjects

21 Science There are two Science Study Routes:
Core and Additional GCSE (2 GCSE Grades): Year 10 & 11 Sets 2 – 5 Core, Additional, and Further Additional GCSE (3 GCSE Grades): Year 10 and 11 Set 1

Seek advice and choose carefully! Be sure it’s the right decision. It won’t be easy to change afterwards! Check predicted grades and current attainment for suitability and eligibility for courses!
