With built in virtualization, P6000 EVA is designed to improve capacity utilization and be easy to manage, which lowers the cost of ownership compared to traditional arrays. These arrays have high performance, scale easily, and are highly reliable and available. P6000 EVA is a trusted platform for enterprise application consolidation with solutions for Microsoft Exchange and SQL, Oracle, and SAP. It also offers a integration with virtual server platforms from VMware, Microsoft and more, plus broad operating systems support. The HP P6000 EVA family is the next generation of EVA with two new models: P6300 EVA and P6500 EVA. The P6000 EVA family supports Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives with a of a wide range of Small Form Factor (SFF) SAS drives, Large Form Factor (LFF) SAS drives, or combinations of both, to better match customer storage capacity, performance, power, and availability needs. The P6000 EVA models are available with Fibre Channel host ports only, or Fibre Channel and 1Gb/s iSCSI host ports, or Fibre Channel and 10Gb/s iSCSI/FCoE host ports. P6000 EVA is also very energy efficient, with high efficiency power supplies for both the controllers and disk drive enclosures, with temperature sensing, self-adjusting variable speed fans. HP P6000 Command View now includes Thin Provisioning, which helps reduce the storage capacity required, to help reduce the number of disks needed, and thus reduce power and cooling costs. P6000 EVA also offers robust local and remote replication capabilities with HP P6000 Business Copy and HP P6000 Continuous Access software. P6000 Business Copy now also support Dynamic LUN and RAID migration, where in one step, the user can change the characteristics of an existing LUN, such as size, RAID type, disk type while the host I/O operation is active. This feature is useful, for example, to move data to more space efficient storage tiers or to move a heavily accessed LUN to a different disk group to improve performance P6300 EVA Combo Kits and Starter Kits are also available to help midsize customers with limited storage administration resources in affordable packages that are simple to order, simple to deploy, and simple to manage. The kits are available for both factory configuration and for field installation. U4879S L.01 16 December 2017

HP P60000 Enterprise Virtual Array Systems -- What's New
Technology overview Technology issues addressed iSCSI Using the iSCSI protocol, any enterprise that uses standard Ethernet technology can build IP SANs and reap their benefits Enables low latency SCSI "blocks" to be transported via Ethernet and TCP/IP iSCSI networks not only are much less expensive than Fibre channel, but they are also much simpler to deploy and manage iSCSI are especially apparent when virtualization is employed Simplifies managing the connection between servers and storage iSCSI networks use the storage functionality that resides in every virtual machine to establish a direct, unique relationship with the target storage array iSCSI technology streamlines the management of data-intensive workloads and delivers full application functionality and robust data protection. Technology Overview iSCSI The Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) protocol defines the rules and processes to transmit and receive block storage applications over TCP/IP networks by encapsulating SCSI commands into TCP and transporting them over the network via IP. Building an iSCSI SAN (Storage Area Network) is no longer limited to those who can manage the complexities and cost of Fibre Channel technology. With the introduction of the iSCSI protocol, any enterprise that uses standard Ethernet technology can now build IP SANs and reap their benefits. Defined and supported by industry leading storage and networking companies, this new networking protocol that enables low latency SCSI "blocks" to be transported via Ethernet and TCP/IP. U4879S L.01

Technology overview Technology issues addressed FCoE Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) maps Fibre Channel storage traffic over a 10Gb Ethernet network, converging storage and networking traffic onto a single platform while leveraging familiar management tools, security models, and processes A growing number of IT managers are consolidating servers and storage to reduce power, cooling, and management costs Storage networking and server virtualization have enabled the first wave of consolidation and savings FCoE was designed to fuel the next wave of consolidation as it lowers complexity, increases efficiency, improves utilization, and ultimately reduces power, space, and cooling requirements in the data center. Technology Overview FCoE A growing number of IT managers are consolidating servers and storage to reduce power, cooling, and management costs. As a matter of fact, 66% of respondents to a recent global ESG survey indicated that a formal IT initiative or program is underway with a goal of reducing power and cooling in the data center.1 With these challenges in mind, storage networking and server virtualization have enabled the first wave of consolidation and savings. FCoE was designed to fuel the next wave of consolidation as it lowers complexity, increases efficiency, improves utilization, and ultimately reduces power, space, and cooling requirements in the data center. ESG Lab has confirmed that the HP CN1000E can drop into an existing data center environment using the same drivers, tools, and techniques as existing FC HBAs and provide transparent storage and IP network connectivity to reduce hardware, cabling, and administration requirements. SAS Disk Drive Choices SKU Description SFF LFF AP877A 146GB 15K AP875A 300GB 10K AW612A 450GB 10K AW611A 600GB 10K AP878A 500GB 7.2K AP870A 300GB 15K AP871A 450GB 15K AP872A 600GB 15K 2TB 7.2K With 9 different drives to choose from at launch, it may be confusing as to what drives to use for a particular customer’s needs. Here’s some hints: First, the capacity, performance and price needs of the customer need to be known. Then go about trying to match those needs. The 146GB 15K SFF is the most expensive drive on a $/GB basis. However, for smaller capacity needs, it can be used to provide the best performance. For example, at 25TB it requires 172 drives and 7 SFF drive enclosures to meet that capacity. It only takes half as many 300GB 10K drives and only 1/4th as many 600GB drives to meet that capacity. However, K drives will get more than 2x the performance of 86 10K drives and about 4x the performance of 43 10K drives. The 7.2K midline drives should only be used for low workload applications, with less than 40% read/write activity. They are the least expensive from a $/GB basis. They also draw the least power from a /GB basis. For large amounts of low workload data, the 2TB 7.2K midline may be a good choice. For smaller amounts of data, where the customer is using SFF 10K or 15K enterprise drives, the 500GB 7.2K midline may be a good choice. The 10K SFF drives are nice choices because of their size, where 15K performance isn’t needed. Like the first example above, for a particular capacity, say 50TB, it would take (167) 300GB 10Ks and 7 SFF enclosures, (111) 450GB 10Ks and 5 SFF enclosures, and (84) 600GB 10Ks and 4 SFF enclosures. But the performance of the (84) 600GB 10Ks would be the lowest; the performance of the (111) 450GB 10Ks would be 1.5x of the 600GBs; and the performance of the (167) 600GB 10Ks would be 2x of the 600GBs. The 15K LFF drives are the highest performance drives. They’re also LFF drives and take up 2x the space of the SFFs. The 15K LFFs perform roughly 20% higher than the 10K SFFs, on a drive per drive basis. A performance white paper will be complete before launch. It should be used to help determine the performance of each type of drive for various capacity points. U4879S L.01 16 December 2017

P6000 EVA Thin Provisioning
HP P60000 Enterprise Virtual Array Systems -- What's New P6000 EVA Thin Provisioning Reservationless provisioning Postpone and save acquisition costs Save on power and cooling Reduce administration loads Lower management costs Optimize system capacity Foster consolidation Used space Traditional Provisioned Storage Thin Provisioned Storage Over provisioning Threshold Save up to 50% P6000 EVA Thin Provisioning Postpone and save acquisition costs. Disk prices generally decrease annually, and thin provisioning lets you save your money now to buy less expensive disks later. Save on power and cooling. With thin provisioning, the only disks you pay to power and cool are the ones in use today. Reduce administration loads. Adding extra capacity later doesn’t require reprovisioning because you’re just adding capacity that your application already assumed was there. Lower management costs with “set and forget” functionality, thin provisioning lets you set notification thresholds. When storage utilization approaches a level that you specify, the application alerts you, giving you time to add more capacity. Optimize system capacity. Thin provisioning doesn’t lock up system capacity, allowing multiple servers and applications to share a pool of storage. Foster consolidation. Since more servers can share one storage system with thin provisioning, it encourages consolidation (rather than proliferation) of systems. Save $$ on capacity-based software licensing. For applications that license based on the amount of associated raw storage, thin provisioning helps you pay for what you’re using today, not in two years. Thin Provisioning is currently supported only on standard LUNs, Thin provisioning of LUNs in BC, CA relationships will be supported in subsequent release Note: No BC/CA/Convert/SCSI Reclaim in 1st release U4879S L.01 16 December 2017

Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE
HP P60000 Enterprise Virtual Array Systems -- What's New Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE Fibre Channel Devised and optimized specifically for performance, reliability, and ensured availability to data Most costly option and is used primarily for Tier 1 and Tier 2 applications with data residing within the same data center, due to its distance limitations iSCSI Great option if lower cost connection to data is required and lower speed access to data is acceptable Leverages installed IP networks and offers the ability to reduce cost and complexity in the storage infrastructure while also spanning unlimited distances However it is not optimized for storage access FCoE Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is still emerging Offers the promise of fast, reliable, and highly available access to data with a lower TCO due to the convergence of Ethernet and Fibre Channel and the various components and management required to maintain two separate infrastructures Often referred to as CEE/FCoE or FCoE/CEE, with CEE (Converged Enhanced Ethernet) being the version of Ethernet support FCoE Currently 80% of the benefit of FCoE can be enjoyed through I/O convergence at the server edge That is, employ new CNA (Converged Network Adapter) based technology within the servers, connecting to a CEE/FCoE TOR (top of rack) switch By doing so, required components can be reduced by 75-95% at the server, where all the complexity lies, and connections to existing Ethernet and Fibre Channel infrastructures are retained Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE Overview Fibre Channel Devised and optimized specifically for performance, reliability, and ensured availability to data Most costly option and is used primarily for Tier 1 and Tier 2 applications with data residing within the same data center, due to its distance limitations iSCSI Great option if lower cost connection to data is required and lower speed access to data is acceptable Leverages installed IP networks and offers the ability to reduce cost and complexity in the storage infrastructure while also spanning unlimited distances However it is not optimized for storage access FCoE Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is still emerging Offers the promise of fast, reliable, and highly available access to data with a lower TCO due to the convergence of Ethernet and Fibre Channel and the various components and management required to maintain two separate infrastructures Often referred to as CEE/FCoE or FCoE/CEE, with CEE (Converged Enhanced Ethernet) being the version of Ethernet support FCoE. Depending on the Ethernet switches used and the P6000 EVA controllers used, the connections from the switches to the P6000 can be 1 GbE or 10 GbE. Note that data traffic from the isolated servers is over iSCSI to the P6000, while the data traffic from the data center servers is over FC. And the communication between all the servers is over Ethernet. (Not shown are the 1 Gb Ethernet connections from a CV Management Server to the P6000 which are needed for management of the iSCSI ports of the controllers.)
