3 A Historic Opportunity
School of Education Strategic Plan A Historic Opportunity Education is a defining issue of our time, crucial to everything from career opportunity and social mobility to effective democratic citizenship. The role of teachers and administrators has become critically important, particularly in culturally diverse Orange County. UCI is poised to become a top 10 School of Education by 2022, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the school’s founding.

Why UCI? The School of Education has recruited internationally recognized researchers in educational science and has developed extraordinary capacity to make a difference n this area. UCI has the most diverse student population of any top ranked research university The School is deeply committed to expanding educational equity and opportunity (e.g., 75% of CalTeach Science and Math graduates choose to teach in a high-needs schools).

Professional development for practicing teachers Practicing teachers become mentors for PSTs Provide agency to local actors Advance research on teaching Knowledge generated by and for practitioners
