Who is Tracee Fletcher? Born in the summer of 1973 Rome, New York
Child of Willie and Elmora Fletcher Younger sister to Venita Fletcher Twin sister to Terrance Fletcher Family originates from Louisiana and Alabama

Processes that effect Development
According to Santrok (2016), there are three processes of development that begins at birth and continues throughout life. Biological process- produces changes in the body. Such as the development of brain, height, weight, changes in motor skills, hormonal change and cardiovascular decline (p. 10). Cognitive process- changes in a persons thought process, intellect and language skills (p.10). Socioemotional process- involves changes in relationships with other people, emotions and personality (p.10). Biological, cognitive and socioemotional processes are intertwined to create the phases of the human life span (Santrock, 2016).

Tracee’s Personal Development Birth to Twenty-four Months
Biological process: Fraternal twin, born 4 minutes apart According to Medical-Dictionary (n.d.), fraternal twins means “non- identical twins produced by the simultaneous fertilization of two different eggs by different sperms.” Twins can be male/female, male/male or female/female. Preemie- 4 lbs. 2 oz., 19 inches long Stayed in hospital for 7 additional days to gain weight.

Cognitive process: Increased brain activity, gross and fine motor skills increased, and reflexes Learned a lot following her brother’s lead, sister’s behaviors and parent’s teachings. Santrock (2016), would describe this cognitive type of learning through the Vygotsky’s sociocultural cognitive theory Started walking at 11 months of age by pulling up on her brother, who was already walking by 10 ½ months

Socioemotional process: Used to scratch and bite her twin brother all the time to the point her parents put socks on her hands. Cried a lot when she could not get her way A difficult child, according to Chess and Thomas Temperament Classification is a child that reacts negatively, cries a lot and is slow to accept change (Santrock, 2016). Grew out of that stage, became what Rothbart and Bates would classify as extraversion/surgency. Smiled and laughed more (Santrock, 2016)

Tracee’s Personal Development Two to five years old
Biological process: Began to form complex sentences. Influenced by the Boca area. An area of the left frontal brain that helps forms words (Santrock, 2016). Sleep is considered an important part of development. “Sleep efficiency was found to be associated with impairments in cognitive functioning” (Vriend, Davidson, Corkum, Rusak, McLaughlin & Chambers, 2012, p. 218). It also helps restore/replenish the body and brain after daily activities (Santrock, 2016, p. 103). Parents ensured she got at least got 9 hours of sleep a night. This habit continued well into adulthood. This practice has been passed down to her son.

Cognitive process: Started Kindergarten at 5 years old Intuitive thought stage. According to Santrock (2016), this means children start to use primitive reasoning (p.183). Became the “why” child. Why did that occur? Or Why did you do that?

Socioemotional process: Brother was placed in a different Kindergarten classroom, so they could not rely on each other She was shy without him School helped with social play. Social play is “play that involves interaction with peers” (Santrock, 2016, p.500). In time she came out of her shell

Tracee’s Personal Development Six to Eleven years old
Biological process: Hit the side of her head at 9 years old and loss consciousness. Ninth birthday party, was running with friends to the playground, tripped over her feet and head landed on a rock The temporal lobes in the brain play a role in memory, hearing and processing language (Santrock, 2016).

Tracee’s Personal Development Six to Eleven years old
Cognitive process: Due to head injury, memory still hazy Assumed gender schema theory was learned during this timeframe. Learned what is gender-appropriate and gender-inappropriate in her culture (Santrock, 2016, p. 374). Accommodated to loss of some memories. According to Piaget process of development, accommodation occurs when children adjust their way of thinking to take in account new information and experiences (Santrock, 2016, p. 175).

Socioemotional process: Memory still unclear for this time period. Self-aware, understanding of others. Santrock (2016), called the understanding of others, perspective taking Relied on family to provide past memories

Tracee’s Personal Development Twelve to Fifteen years old
Biological process: Asthma during this time period. Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways and the most common, chronic childhood illness (Cleveland, 2013). Joined the track team. Ran the 100, and 200 relay race. Improved cardiovascular system and lung capacity

Cognitive process: Dreamed of becoming a Veterinarian Discouraged by grandparents due to severe allergies In the “midst of a crisis”, and goals were lacking or unclearly defined (p. 352). Santrock (2016) called this identity moratorium phase

Socioemotional process: Average child Santrock (2016) explained, average children receive an average number of both positive and negative from their peers (p. 490) Did not hang in cliques, felt everyone was a friend/associate

Biological process: Hormone raging Dating at 16 Sexual Identity: Heterosexual

Cognitive process: Graduated High School Joined the Air Force. Emphasizing the need to need to serve a group instead of self. Santrock (2016), would labeled this as Collectivism.

Socioemotional process: Cousin found murdered by the serial killer Jeffery Dahmer Grief: emotional numbness, and disbelief (Santrock, 2016, p. 579) Tried to make sense out of this world Went to prom

Biological process: Drinking alcohol Poor eating habits Developed Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as a result GERD: is a digestive disorder that affects the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach, due to the return of the stomach's contents backing up into the esophagus (WebMed, n.d.).

Cognitive process: Received Emergency Management Technician Certificate Completed Associate Degree in Health Sciences from Community College of the Air Force Finished combat weapon, biological and chemical training

Socioemotional process: Single Adult According to Santrock (2016), more than 5,000 single adults 21 years of age and older were not in a committed relationships (p.447). More assertive and adventurous

Biological process: Injured back on deployment. Could not do work duties for months Attended physical/water therapy Pregnancy Gained weight, pressure to be fit.

Cognitive process: Completed Bachelor Degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale Became more spiritual- Spirituality “living in a way that benefits others and society” (Santrock, 2016, p.431).

Socioemotional process: Chronosystem; motherhood, marriage Chronosystem affects development through sociohistorical events, and changes in a person’s life circumstances (Santrock, 2016). Authoritative style of parenting. Urges kids to be independent, but at the same time place limits on their actions (Santrock, 2016, p. 461). Euthanatized dog. It is an act of ending a life to avoid suffering (Santrock, 2016, p.568). “R.I.P. Ebony 2014”

Biological process: Routine age-related health check ups: Mammogram Hormone fluctuations Perimenopause: the in between stage of having a menstrual cycle to no menstrual cycle (Santrock, 2016, p 399).

Cognitive process: Working on Master’s Degree- Human Services concentration on Gerontology from Concordia University, Nebraska Crystallized intelligence. Increased learning to increase knowledge. Accumulated information and verbal skill improve in middle age (Santrock, 2016, p. 199)

Socioemotional process: Completed a Life review: looking back on one’s life experiences, evaluating them, and interpreting them (Santrock, 2016, p. 341) Retired from the Air Force Involved in more leisure activities

Biological process: Vision changes- reading glasses Physical changes- back pain, cannot stand/walk for long periods of time

Cognitive process: Decline in prospective memory: made list in order to remember to do things Prospective memory: involves remembering to do something in the future (Santrock, 2016, p. 219)

Socioemotional process: Empty nest syndrome. A decline in marital satisfaction after children leave the home (Santrock, 2016) Activity theory. The more active an older adult is, the more they are satisfied with life Cultivated friendships

Biological process: Hearing loss- hearing aid Physical changes, thinning/graying of hair, less muscle tone, need to walk with cane or walker

Cognitive process: Favorite pass time to read fiction novels Cognitive pragmatics linked to experience and culture improves in late adulthood (Santrock, 2016, p. 199). Created advance directive. Santrock (2016), advance directives are legal documents that details a person’s end of life care choice (p. 568).

Socioemotional process: Retired from second career Activity levels slowed down. Socioemotional selectivity theory: more selective on what types of activities or social relationships get involved with (Santrock, 2016, p. 305). Grandparent

Biological process: Less mobile, dependent on others Arthritis. Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints

Cognitive process: Facing Death Kubler-Ross Stages of Dying: 5 stages of dying, denial/isolation, anger, bargaining/depression and acceptance (Santrock, 2016, p. 577)
