Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute money. 4 The king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea. For He had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison. 5 The king of Assyria went throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria and besieged it for three years. 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria. He repaired the Millo in the City of David and he made weapons and shields in abundance. 6 He set military captains over the people, he gathered them together to him in the open square of the city gate, and gave them encouragement, saying, 7 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh. But with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles. And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. NKJV
