3 MDM Objectives: Government of India launched the scheme in January 2003 for the children. Studying in Primary schools (Classes I to V). Extended to Upper Primary schools (Classes VI to VIII) in October, Further extended to the children studying in centres under National Child Labour Project (NCLP) from the Academic Year of To improve the nutritional and health standard of the growing children. Elimination of class-room hunger. Increase in enrolment, more significantly of girls. Improve in daily attendance particularly of girls and children from poorer sections. To reduce drop-outs. Socializing among castes and empower women employment.

19 Action taken report on PAB-2016-17 Comments:
Sl.No Comment Action Taken 1 Construction of Kitchen-cum-stores 7080 schools are identified in rural areas and proposed for providing kitchen-cum-stores with an estimated cost Rs Cr (6171 schools with strength from 21 to 200 – unit Rs 2 lakhs each and 909 schools having 200 and above strength – unit Rs lakhs) in convergence with MGNREGS(45% total commitment – Rs Cr.) Administrative sanction orders have already been issued to the districts and Rs Cr. provided in BE Construction will be taken up as soon as the budget released by the State Government. 2 Replacing Centralized Kitchens with school based kitchens In Sangareddy district, Akshayapatra Foundation is providing Mid Day Meals through centralized kitchen in both urban and certain rural area schools. In DSE proc.Rc.No. 267/MDM/2015, dated: the District Educational Officer, has been requested to take action for replacing of centralized kitchen in rural areas and identify cooking agencies for these schools.

20 Cont…. Sl.No Comment Action Taken 3 Provision of LPG in the schools:
The Special Chief Secretary to the Government, School Education Department, Telangana in her Lr.No. 1754/SE.ProgII/A2/2015, dated: requested the Government of India to release the GoI share for providing LPG connection to the Government schools for cooking Mid Day meals in the State. In reply the Director (MDM), MHRD in his letter dated: informed that it has been decided by the Government to provide LPG subsidy to schools with U-DISE number under MDM scheme. Process has been initiated to ensure that gas (LPG) based cooking will be taken up by all the schools in the state from the next academic year 4 Pending payments to FCI: All the pending bills pertaining to FCI have been cleared. At present an amount of Rs. 26,656/- is due to be paid to FCI by the District Educational Officer, Hyderabad. The same will be cleared as early as possible.

Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK): The health check-up of all the enrolled children should be carried out. School health programme called (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is being implemented in convergence with SSA and Health Department to cover all the children in Government and Local body schools which includes screening, Healthcare and referral, immunisation, micro nutrients (vitamin-A and iron folic acid) management, de-worming . 2) School Health cum Education Records (SHERS) are issued to all the schools which are being updated by the Education and Health Department personnal. The Doctor of the Primary Health Center visit to the schools in the village twice in a month and conduct Health check-up. Cases which need further health care are referred to the district and state level referral hospitals. 6 Particulars up to Dec, 2016 Eye check-up has been conducted for all the students under DRUSHTI (Chinnari Choopu) and students were supplied spectacles. Ensure to maintain check accuracy for the data entered in the MDM-MIS portal The data entered in the MDM-MIS web portal is being reviewed by the districts regularly. 99% of data entry is completed in MDM-MIS portal till Dec, 2016. 8 Provisions of hand washing facility in schools In all the schools where Mid Day Meals are being provided some type or other hand washing facility is provided and details are as follows: Multitap Tap water Hand pump Pond/Well/Stream Others

23 State Initiatives The State Government made provision of MDM to students of Class IX and X with 100% contribution. The State Government has provisioned an additional cooking cost of Rs.2/- per day per child to provide three eggs a week to each child in MDM with an amount of Rs Cr thus adding protein content of the meal. From , the State Government is supplying Super Fine variety of Rice for MDM scheme additionally bearing an amount of Rs crores per annum approximately. Material pertaining to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in the form of books and calendars have been printed and supplied to all the schools in the state for effective implementation of MDM.

24 Contd.... Training is being organized to all the personal from state level to school level including cook-cum-helper involved in implementation of Mid day meals scheme in collaboration with UNICEF. The Society for Social Audit Accountability and Transparency (SSAAT), Department of Rural Development, Government of Telangana is conducted Social Audit of the 3 schools in each District. M/s. National Collateral Management Systems has collected and tested the food 3 schools from all the Districts in the State. The Automated reporting and monitoring system by of SMS was started on
