2 The landscape 853,000 young people are Not in Education Employment or Training (ONS – Q4 2015) Business community says that many young people lack the skills for work or the work experience needed to progress Government investment in Social Action has significantly risen 40% of young people in the UK take part in meaningful social action (Cabinet Office Social Action Report)

3 What is Social Action Social action means taking steps to change the things that are wrong in our society and introducing new ideas and processes for doing things better in the future.

4 Multi-Level Solutions
Young people are not prepared or lack work experience to help them progress - Social Action ‘67% (of employers) report that entry level candidates who have voluntary experience demonstrate more employability skills.’

The new Apprenticeship Standards all include personal, learning and thinking (PLTS) Independent enquiry Creative thinking Reflective learning Team working Self management Effective participation (Taken from BIS Apprenticeship Standard example of Intermediate Standard Apprenticeship) Social Action The top three skills cited by respondents were teamwork (82%), communication (80%)

7 YEUK Ambassador Programme
The YEUK Ambassador Programme provides year olds a 12-month volunteering opportunity. Ambassadors benefit from mentoring, peer engagement and training on key skills such as – Public Speaking, Presentation, Blogging, Project Work, Peer Mentoring.

Youth Employment UK works with its Community Members to support their work with young people. All of our members receive the Youth Friendly Badge and get information and updates to help develop their recruitment, youth employment programmes and CSR.
