2 Video Editing BASICs Presets (System, format, resolution, bitrate, fps) Reset your workspace Select a new folder, save Import (photos, videos, music, audio) Introduction to common tools Simple edit (cut, delete, ripple delete) Rearrange order of shots if required Titles, subtitles Matching visuals to sound, voiceover Storytelling through sequence Avoid jar shots and jump cuts Avoid audio jerks

3 Video Editing ADVANCED Cut Tight Matching Action
Multiple Tracks editing Adding Key frames Adding extra motion Mixing Audio video Continuity Editing Cut on Action Color Correction Stabilizer, effects, transition

4 Adobe Premiere Pro Some Techniques CUT TIGHT
(remove unnecessary pauses between the lines using cutaways) AVOID Dragnet Style editing Camera moves to A – Character A delivers dialogue Camera moves to B – Character B delivers dialogue AVOIDING this by using L-cut & J-cut, Use B-roll AVOID JUMP CUT You encounter this specially while editing interviews, use different angle (if you have multiple cameras, Or use cutaways)

5 Adobe Premiere Pro Don’t break the rule of 180
If by chance you have missed this, try to use cutaways or B-roll between such shots. Use shots that have at least 45 degree angle variation. Cut on motion In order to make the cut invisible, make sure you cut on the motion or action of the character. Change Focal Length Interchange between close up and medium shots. Use WIPES as transition Like: when a bus comes into your frame and covers all of it then you can show entirely a different scene in the next shot.

6 Adobe Premiere Pro Matching Action & Matching the scene
Continuity of action and continuity of direction Motivation Sometimes you want to change the angle just because the shot starting shaking or someone walked in front of the camera. Edit out Mistakes Both technical errors and your subjects’ mistakes can be omitted as far as it is ethical and that doesn’t produce an entirely wrong impression about the subjects.

7 Adobe Premiere Pro Video Transitions
Cuts: simple cuts joining two footage together. Used when the story flows, without changes in the scene, context and setting. Best when editing to the beat of music. Don’t use it if there will appear video jars. Dissolve: To keep the flow. To create some nostalgia (like going through the photographs of past using dissolve) Do not use dissolve from A-roll to B-roll or vice versa. Also don’t use it if your video was done handheld. It looks messy. Dip to color is best when transitioning from live action to graphics.

8 Adobe Premiere Pro Video Transitions
Slide: One footage pushes or slides the previous one. Used when there is a major shift in the story. Don’t use it when the pace of video is slow. Wipe: When the next footage is of a different location or has a major transition between the occurrence of the two. The best use is when someone comes into the frame covering all of it, and you want to move to another different setting or location. Don’t use it for no reason like when action or scene in the next footage is a continuation of the previous one.
