Visual merchandising today forms a critical element of retailing
Visual merchandising today forms a critical element of retailing. Besides the facade and windows, which are clearly done up with an objective to attract passer-bys and induce walk-ins, there is also in-store decor that is designed to enhance the customer’s comfort and convenience while shopping and overall, offer a superior shopping experience. Consumer behaviour studies have confirmed that the lure of a beautifully done up show window and a tastefully decorated facade, more often than not, prove irresistible as they walk in to check out what is on offer. It also ensures exclusivity since no two stores should look alike. Besides, when the mood and theme of such displays change at regular intervals, it makes certain that the store remains top of mind. Loyal customers have often been known to anxiously wait for the next display. ‘Stickiness’ in retail formats is also ensured by the imaginative use of colours, lighting, space, furniture and visual elements with regard to in-store displays. Once customers walk in, it is but imperative to ensure that they enjoy their first encounter with the store. After all, repeat visits will only happen if a customer’s first visit is a memorable one. The logical arrangement of counters, with clear passageways allows for easy access to merchandise. Rather than getting lost in the maze that most large stores are, the customer feels more in control. Space is allocated to various product categories taking into account the number of SKUs stocked and shelves/counter space requirements are worked out accordingly. Clear passages are provided for products, which require touch and feel. All impulse purchase driven products are also clearly displayed so that the customers can reach them without any hindrance. Also, it has been observed that when a person enters a room, the human eye moves in a Z pattern, i.e. from rear left of the room to right rear, followed by front left of the room to front right. Care should be taken to do up the rear left end of the room in an appealing manner so as to guide the direction of vision and keep a shopper visually interested. Visual merchandising is the hook that draws customers through your shop and compels them to pick up — and buy — your products.

BIRTHDAY BASH –“People will forget what you said, forget what you did but will never forget how you will make them feel”. BIRTHDAY BASH is one way of celebrating the special day of our employees through a little gesture and also a means of communicating how important they are. Celebrated at the end of every month, the same sun signs get together for a little cake cutting ceremony and an hour of fun filling activities. Even management doesn’t lack behind in being with their employees, and is seen participating with a great enthusiasm. Our Group President Mr. Atul Madan is always part of this little ceremony , making it more personalized. AEROBIC CLASSES – “If it is important to you will find a way” “ It’s never too late to be what you might have been”. A kick start to a day makes it a great way and that is what the new initiative says. Exercise when clubbed with music makes it a perfect combination. Every Wednesday and Friday ,scheduled 1 hr morning session (9:00 am- 10:00 AM ) for the female employees.

Nestle India has ended its contract with the lone third party producer of its Maggi instant noodles, SAJ Food Products, which means the Swiss food giant will no longer outsource production of the popular snack brand that was recently recalled on safety concerns. Homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart today announced the second edition of "Big Billion Sale," to be held between October 13 and 17. An app-only shopping event, Big Billion Days, will offer exciting offers and unbeatable discounts across 70+ product categories for customers to shop from. From high-end brands to high street ones, India is emerging as a profitable market for international fashion labels. Exploring this "emerging and interesting market", now comes British fashion brand Topshop, which has forayed through e-commerce platform Jabong.com, along with another British brand Topman. Swedish fashion chain Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) will open its first India flagship store at Select City Walk New Delhi on October 2. This will be the 60th market for the group. H&M will share Mall Space with its arch rival, the European fashion brand Zara. The store itself will be spread across about 25,000 sq. ft. across two floors. A second store in Delhi is expected to open by the end of 2015 at the Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj. The group is expected to open as many as 30 stores in India next year. Ajay Kapoor, the erstwhile Head of Retail Operations has moved to Fabindia Overseas as Chief of Markets. At Biba, Kapoor was responsible for expanding distribution through EBO's and MBO's, besides managing the existing network. While Fabindia has been a completely EBO driven business (200 + stores), they have in the last few years extended their distribution mandate to include franchisees. Given Kapoor’s experience and expertise in setting up distribution, could this mean further changes in strategy at Fabindia?

Two late goals in two minutes from Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez gave European champions Barcelona a dramatic 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. For Barca, who were without injured talisman Lionel Messi, it was a frustrating game of missed chances until their pressure told. "We believed in ourselves until the end," Suarez told reporters.
