A better connected world
Persons Better connected Industry Better connected World People Device 4 Billion New internet users 8 Billion Smart phones in use 100B Connections By 2025 The development of ICT in the past 20 years is leading us into a new era. The next 20 years will bring us the new wave of the digital evolution, a wave of wisdom. Grasping these new trends, we will see many new opportunities. However, we will face many challenges, especially the disruptive challenges that are based on the brand new thought process and mindset. In order to address these challenges, we must change our thought process and process with courage, proactively transform our ICT infrastructure to support the business transformation. Of course we know this kind changes are extremely important for people like us who are in the transition process between the past and new era because changing is painful. Sometimes we give us in the middle or refuse to change. But I am afraid we do not have a choice. Because when a new era arrives, our living condition and quality will depend on how fast we change rather than if we change or not. Long-term investment in innovation
Continue to invest over 10% of revenue into R&D.Total R&D investment in the past decade amounted to US$30.7 billion No. 1 Chinese company with the largest number of patents in China; one of the Top 50 patent holders in the US; one of the Top 10 patent holders in Europe. Top 100 Global Innovators 2014 (by Thomson Reuters) The Most Innovative Companies 2014 (by BCG) $0.6B $0.7B $1.1B $1.4B $1.8B $2.3B $2.9B $3.9B $4.9B $5.1B 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2014 2013 $6.6B Innovation of applications and products Innovation in fundamental technologies Key messages: ICT is a high-tech industry. The major driving force behind its development is customer needs and technology. Over the past decade, we have been investing more than 10% of our sales revenue in R&D. No matter how the economic environment changes, we believe that only by continuously investing in technology will we be able to provide the highest returns to our customers. We are well aware that investment in R&D should be approached like a marathon, not a surge like short-distance sprint. We must maintain our efforts, commit time and money, and continue with our research and making breakthroughs into our focused directions. By doing so, we also drive industry development and social progress. For example, Huawei‘s SingleRAN ushered in a new broadband era and enables people to enjoy broader bandwidth by paying the same tariff. Another example is our SoftCOM technology that helped carriers construct network architectures based on data centers and turned digital floods into “digital oilfields”. TOP 10(ranking 7 in granted patent, ranking 5 in application) in Europe: In US: Huawei has filed a total of 48,719 patent applications in China, and 23,197 patent applications outside of China. A total of 38,825 patent applications have been granted. Strengthen fundamental research Open innovation Billion US$

Well-designed incentive mechanisms attract excellent talent from around the world
Competitive compensation Engage global consulting firms in developing a competitive and non-discriminatory compensation system. Unique long-term incentive mechanisms Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): involving 82,471Huawei employees (including active and retired employees) as of December 31, 2014. Time-based Unit Plan (TUP): a long-term incentive plan for employees under different legal frameworks, which covers Chinese and non-Chinese employees globally. Career development paths Two career development paths: managerial and technical paths. Encourage and coach excellent local employees to develop into mid- and senior-level managers. Ensure that the individual goals of our employees align with those of the company and that employees share risks and enjoy benefits with the company. Why TUP:Chinese law prohibits non-Chinese citizens from owning shares in Huawei as part of the ESOP program. In an effort to bring to local employees of Hauwei worldwide, the same long term incentives as provided to Chinese employess, Huawei created the TUP program. The program provides a near equivalent long-term incentive structure for local Huawei employees as for its Chinese employees. Today. Mr. Ren Zhengfei Owns less than 1.4% of Huawei's stock while the other 98.6% is owned by Huawei employees

Dedicated to bridging the digital divide
Japan Norway Dedication and integrity We do whatever it takes to achieve network coverage in harsh conditions. Extreme temperatures, tsunamis, earthquakes, disease or war - we never walk away Philippines Key messages: Huawei works hard to bridge the digital divide and delivers contracts with integrity to ensure stable and safe operations of customer networks. Faithfully fulfilling contracts and delivering with integrity are core principles at Huawei. We keep our promises and meet customer requirements in all environments. Thanks to these principles, we have earned the trust of our customers. We have selected four photos to share with you that are representative of how hard Huawei employees are working in more than 100 countries. It is precisely this spirit of dedication and customer centricity that have made Huawei what it is today. Photo 1: According to analysis by the International Telecom Union (ITU), only 6.7% of African homes had access to broadband connections by In Europe, this figure reached up to 77%. African users are eager to gain access to the Internet. What they need is fast, reliable, and affordable broadband services. Given that Africa has rigid demands for broadband access but lacks fixed network resources, wireless broadband becomes especially important for bridging the digital divide in Africa. With its ultra-high downlink bandwidth and industry chain maturity,Huawei’s TD-LTE solution effectively improves the penetration of broadband access in Africa while reducing the cost of wireless broadband access. Photo 2: This is the world's northernmost LTE base station at 74°N latitude. The Svalbard Islands in Norway are situated between 74°N and 81°N and are very close to the North Pole. The islands are sparsely-populated. The terrain is complex and sites are scattered. In May 2011, Telenor, a Norwegian customer, held a ceremony celebrating its 100-year anniversary on the Svalbard Islands. It also launched the first LTE site and demonstrated LTE services. To facilitate the migration, the delivery team overcame various difficulties and adopted a combination of transportation modes to transport equipment, including snowmobiles, forklifts, helicopters, and small planes. After concerted efforts from both parties, the migration of 2G and 3G networks on the islands was successfully completed. Photo 3:In March 2011, when the earthquake hit in East Japan, all other non-Japanese enterprises called for their employees based in the country to leave the area. In contrast, Huawei sent groups of executives and technical engineers to Japan to restore network equipment in affected areas. Huawei was among the first enterprises that resumed operations after the earthquake. This picture shows Huawei engineers worked to repair at the back of a car where the network was broken by earthquake. Photo 4: The Haiyan typhoon hit the Philippines, causing over 10,000 deaths and nearly 10 million affected people. Huawei engineers were sent to the disaster-stricken areas immediately by helicopters. In partnership with Vodafone Foundation, we deployed the Vodafone Foundation Instant Network in the disaster areas in Palo–Leyte,Borongan and Guiuan – Samar to help people and relief agencies reinstate emergency communications. This super GSM network had been researched and developed by Huawei and Vodafone at the Mobile Innovation Center in Madrid. The instant network is a self-contained portable system weighing 100 kg that can be packed into four suitcases and taken anywhere on any commercial flight. Furthermore, the instant network can be deployed within 40 minutes. Africa
