This customer both manufactures and prints a variety of handmade tea bags using a transparent biodegradable substrate. Strategy The tea is very high end and is sold at a few Euro each tea bag. Because of the large amount of SKUS, the small footage it’s a natural fit for narrow web digital production. After text and translations there was no space available. La Catrina To keep its spirits alive, La Catrina winery decided to implement a creative packaging strategy. Rather than utilizing a 3” square printed label, they used the the entire 360 degrees bottle and enlisted a well known local artist to create designs just in time for the Mexican “Day of the dead” season. Challenge: There are around 7,000 wineries in the US, but the market is dominated by just seven who claim 80% of the retail shelf space, leaving the rest to fight it out for the remaining 20%. How does a small wine distributor stand out from the crowded wine shelves. Strategy: Implement a creative packaging strategy for bottles. Rather than utilizing a 3” square printed label, be innovative and utilize the entire 360 bottle and enlist a well known local artist to create designs. Results: Available only to retailers in New Mexico, South West has sold 80,000 bottles of La Catrina wine in the first two months. It has also fielded enquiries from wine stockists around the US ahead of a national roll-out. Read full article Challenge To beat the competition & make the most of an un-seasonally early hot British summer to launch a new BBQ range and seize the market & sales opportunity. This new chilled British Sausage range of 3 SKU’s needed to be launched on a very tight deadline to beat rival retailers. The traditional printing supply chain process is inflexible & booked weeks ahead for volume runs. Strategy Working with Ultimate Digital & the HP Indigo Iceland Foods, aimed to print the first 2 weeks stock of the new products (approx 90k packs), while the conventional packs were being prepared to be printed conventionally & ensuring that quality & food regulation standard’s were not compromised. Results Ultimate Digital managed the complete process, from order, print & lamination, then delivering the film to Iceland’s sausage supplier for packing in only 10 days fromdesign First run of product sold out ahead of expectations, leading to a second digital production of the products whilst the conventional packs were still in production. This increased printing flexibility, allows Iceland to test market, produce regional & targeted packs with no disruption to their supply chain or compromise on Quality. Neutrogena To promote its new make-up removing wipes, Neutrogena decided to challenge the female readers of Brazil’s popular magazine “Caras”. Neutrogena and agency DM9DDB worked with Brazilian weekly Caras to create a special cover featuring actress Giovanna Ewbank. The issue also came with a set of Deep Clean wipes, so readers could rub the makeup off her face. Studies have shown that when you actually touch and handle a product, you feel a connection to it and are even willing to pay more for it. Or, as DM9's vice president of media Drian Ferguson puts it to Brazilian publication AdNews, "This interactive piece of press gives consumers the power to star in the campaign. They handle the product, test, prove and evaluate the outcome." Design Culture writer Diogo Mattos, for his part, calls the work an "innovation" that reflects what the future of magazine advertising could look like—specifically in the Brazilian market, where he believes executions like this are few and far between.
