1 Fiberglass Tank & Pipe Institute Presentation
Double-Wall Tank Sump Session 2017 ASTSWMO May Meeting (May 23-25, 2017)

2 Round DW Collars 42” and 48” round collars
Accepts round base of sumps for rotation and precise alignment

3 Polygon Sump Base Bottom of polygon sump base transitions to round
Allows for precise adjustment of base so flat panels align with entry fittings and pipe runs

4 8-Sided Polygon Sump Bases
Both the 42” and 48” diameter sumps are 8-sided Allows for proper alignment of pipe and entry fitting for 90 and 45 degree couplings

5 Drain/Test Fitting Threaded fitting and plug
Designed for annual testing and demonstrating communication between tank collar and sump

6 2-Piece Design Bottom section of polygon base is 2’ high
Avoids confined space entry Makes installing pipe penetrations easier Permits immediate pre-testing of entry penetrations

7 Joint Options Adhesive Channels
Sumps are connected through factory installed adhesive channels with supplied adhesive kit Layup Joint Sumps are connected through field installed layup with supplied kit

8 Watertight Lid Manufactured out of fiberglass No mechanical fasteners
Optional inspection port Watertight gasket design

9 Reservoir Integral fiberglass reservoir that cannot be easily damaged during routine maintenance PVC threaded opening Convenient access to sensor

10 Palletized Sumps Sumps may be palletized for transportation and jobsite storage Prevents damage in transit or on-site

13 Assembly Instructions

14 Assembly Instructions
Adhesive Joints – Sand the surface that will contact the adhesive Layup Joints – Sand a minimum of 4” onto each part where the layup will be applied Ensure mating surfaces are free of contaminants and dry Wipe with clean cloth Do not use oil-based solvents, soap, or water to clean surfaces Dry fit all sump components Determine any length changes to insure minimum required clearance between sump top and concrete Confirm enclosure top and reservoir are level Confirm sump reservoir and drain fitting are located on the same side to facilitate communication testing If required, trim sump body extension using a carbide tipped blade or a masonry blade The sump body extension is only component that can be trimmed When using Adhesive Channel: Insert channel mesh material provided with adhesive kit 360° around each joint If the drain plug in the collar is removed, be sure the reducer fitting remains intact in the collar bushing. Remove only the ¼” drain plug. Contractor must re-sand the mating surfaces before adhesive or layup application Remove any rocks, and/or debris from adhesive channel Sand and clean mating surfaces until white in color Field cuts must be within ±¼” of square Gaps between two joints greater than ¼” must be covered with a maximum width ½” tape Maintain minimum of 4” on the sump body extension to complete interior joint

15 Adhesive & layup instructions

16 Adhesive & Layup Instructions
Check date on adhesive/layup container Note the following dates on the Double-Wall Tank Sump Installation Checklist: Date the kit was assembled Date the kit was used Temperature Considerations: After mixing adhesive and hardener, you will have no more than 20 minutes to complete the application before the resin begins to harden Recommended method for supplemental heat is to transform air to the tank sump while keeping ignition sources away

17 Adhesive Joint With the tank sump components in place, make two consecutive 360° passes around the tank sump filling the adhesive channel evenly using all adhesive

18 Layup Joints Gaps between two joints greater than ¼” must be covered with maximum width ½” tape to prevent resin from running into joint Apply 3 layers of fiberglass layup, saturated with resin, 360° around tank sump, centered on joint

19 Assembled tank sumps

20 Assembled Tank Sumps All piping and electrical penetrations (supplied by others) must seal the tank sump annular space Do not connect the tank sump annular space to any other annular space

21 Post assembly test

22 Post Assembly Test Prior to backfilling:
The annular space may be pressure tested to a maximum of 3 psig during the installation After pressurizing, apply a soap and water solution to the entire surface area on the inside and outside of the tank sump Carefully inspect for leaks as indicated by continuous formation of bubbles Maintain test pressure and continue inspection for 30 minutes. Then release pressure Prior to backfilling: The annular space may be pressure tested to a maximum of 3 psig during the installation. Prior to pressurizing the tank sump, install a 15 psi air gauge with ¼ or ½ lb. increments. After pressurizing, apply a soap and water solution to the entire surface area on the inside and outside of the tank sump. Carefully inspect for leaks as indicated by continuous formation of bubbles.

23 Annular Space Monitoring

24 Annular Space Monitoring
Hydrostatically Monitored Annular Space Monitoring solutions available Brine – Calcium Chloride Solution Propylene Glycol Solution Vacuum Monitored Annular Space Vacuum monitoring may be used utilizing the factory installed fitting Maximum continuous vacuum level shall not exceed 5 psig (10.2”Hg)

25 Annular Space Monitoring
Fill the tank sump with the required number of gallons of monitoring fluid
