9 What Contributes to Discipline Problems?
OUT OF SCHOOL CAUSES: Differences in cultural norms Violence in society Effects of the media Lack of a secure family or home environment IN SCHOOL CAUSES Student Boredom/disengagement in class Sense of powerlessness/learned helplessness Unclear or inconsistent limits/expectations Lack of acceptable outlets for feelings/emotions

10 Action Plan for Campus Discipline and Classroom Management
To promote positive interventions through frequent parental contact, parent conferences, providing student incentives and referral to the Student Support Team (SST) for appropriate placement as needed. Teachers will develop a classroom environment that is supportive, safe, peaceful, calm, predictable and concentrated on students Students must be provided a nurturing and caring environment within the rules that govern appropriate behavior in our society. Students need structure and clearly defined limits on behavior. To develop respect and trust in the classroom, teachers should model that kind of behavior. Teachers should listen carefully to students, speak to them with respect and treat everyone fairly. Knowing students as individuals and acknowledging them supports positive behavior. The Administrative Team and Campus Discipline Office will support teachers and staff to create a positive culture for learning.

11 RESTORATIVE DISCIPLINE PRACTICES
During the School Year we will implement the Restorative Practices and focus on social emotional learning strategies to help reduce the Out Of School and In School Suspensions for students in an effort to make them more accountable for their behavior and for increased academic success and student achievement for the teacher.
