New SSHRC Grant Partnership Engage Grant

4 Update – New Partnership Engage Grant
Grant being introduced to provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. Intended to respond quickly to the short-term research needs, challenges, and opportunities of non-academic organizations. These partnerships let non-academic organizations and postsecondary researchers access each other’s unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.

5 Update – New Partnership Engage Grant
Valued between $7,000 and $25,000 over one year. Applications will be accepted quarterly: September 15; December 15; March 15; and June 15. For the first competition, research administrators will be able to forward applications until 8 p.m. eastern, September 15, 2017.

8 Update – Revised Guidelines for the Eligibility of Health-Related Research
SSHRC has expanded the eligibility of health-related research projects with a focus on social sciences and humanities. 13 Insight Development Grant vs. Insight Grant
Insight Development Grants for projects from 1 – 2 years initial stage of research  $7,000 - $75,000 emerging scholars evaluated separately from established researchers In the last competition, 50% of funds were for emerging scholars Insight Grants for projects from 2 – 5 years any stage of research $7,000 to $400,000 all researchers evaluated equally

15 Update – Insight Grant – Two Streams
Both streams will be adjudicated by the same committees and will receive the same rigorous level of merit review, including the input of external assessors. Committees will receive separate budget envelopes dedicated to each stream. Stream A will have a target success rate higher than Stream B. 16 Update – Insight Grant – Two Streams
Researchers are not currently permitted to apply for an Insight Grant and Insight Development Grant in the same calendar year. However, with the introduction of the two streams, an unsuccessful applicant from Insight Development Grant 2017 may apply for a Stream A or a Stream B Insight Grant in 2017. Why is it being offered? The new, two-stream approach for Insight Grants responds to concerns raised by both researchers and peer reviewers: namely that there is a perceived bias encouraging larger and longer grants and that there are currently no options for established scholars seeking smaller grants to support ongoing research.  SSHRC uses the SSHRC online system and SSHRC CV for the Insight Grant CA Deadline is 8 p.m. (EDT), 6 p.m. (SK), October 15, 2017 If a deadline falls on a weekend or a Canadian public holiday, the online application system will remain open until 8 p.m. (eastern time) on the next business day
