4 1. NCE-KM-IKTP Initiative Goal To support international collaborations between networks, centres, consortia and their partners to accelerate knowledge translation in areas of mutual strategic interest.

5 1. (cont’d) Background Modeled on NCE-KM initiative International collaboration has become more important to the granting agencies Knowledge Translation implies commercialization in addition to traditional Knowledge Mobilization

(cont’d) Funding First cycle of up to four years (renewal possible for up to three years) Up to $400K per year = total of up to $1.6M per network Up to 8 Letters of Intent could be invited to submit Full Applications $4.8 M available in total for first cycle, therefore up to three networks could be funded.

7 1. (cont’d) What is funded? Networking and administration costs associated with knowledge translation NB: commercialization activities can also be funded. What is not funded? Research activities, students and stipends.

8 2. 2017 NCE-IKTP competition Timeline Competition announcement February 2016 Deadline for submission of Letter of Intent (LOI) May 2, 2016 Successful LOIs announced July 2016 Deadline for submission of Full Application (FA) October 17, 2016 Successful NCE-KM networks announced December 2016 First instalment of funding released March 31, 2017

9 2. Key elements Significant involvement of key individuals and stakeholders in areas that fall under domains of two or more of the three Canadian federal granting agencies International stakeholders involved Be able to show results during the funding period will be key

LOI Stage Must be submitted by academic applicant with academic host organization to receive funds Can be managed by a federally incorporated not-for-profit org, with a Board of Directors Eligibility determined by NCE Secretariat – fit to program, eligibility of applicant, eligibility of host, budget Form to complete, budget tables, plus free form

13 Questions received Who is eligible to apply? We are an existing network; are we eligible to apply? We are provincially incorporated, is this sufficient?

14 Questions (con’td) We represent a consortium of two companies and a couple of academic institutions, can we apply? Our work is focused on public policy, is this an eligible area?

15 Questions (con’td) Where do we incorporate foreign researchers and stakeholders to the LOI application? Are there target areas? Can funds be spent outside of Canada?

16 Questions (con’td) Is there a maximum or minimum cash contribution from external partners that is expected? What is the review process for the LOI?
