2 MHCM Course Objectives
Prepare students to upgrade their professional level managerial position to specialized professional career in Healthcare (Health and Hospital) Management. Program Features The MHCM Program consists of 60 Credit hours comprising of core course, professional course, elective, thesis and internship The program is to be completed in 4 semesters of 6 months each. The spring semester begins on March and fall semester begins on September. The intake is made on both the semesters. The program is designed on both the on-college learning and off-college learning. It encompasses class lectures, discussions, presentations, guest lectures, case analysis (on-college learning) and internship, research, group work, field visit (off-college learning). The Semester System The semester system has the provision for taking up five courses (3 credit hours each) per semester one of which would be elective. Each subject is assigned a class of 45 hours. Duration of the Course The Masters in Health Care Management program is an intensive two- year course over four semesters of 6 months each. Upon successful completion of the course the students will be awarded Masters in Health Care Management (MHCM) by Pokhara University. 6 Admission Requirements and Procedure
The admission requirement for students in the MHCM program is as follows: Any four year bachelor’s degree in Health Science with CGPA 2.0 or 2nd division BHCM or PGDHCM with CGPA 2 or 2nd division Any Masters degree or above pass recognized by Pokhara University with CGPA 2.0 or 2nd division BY: Kabita Khanal, Director HCM Dept, NOC

Evaluation System Internal Evaluation The mode of evaluating in a given course is decided by the concerned faculty who may assign varying weights to one or more of the evaluation modes like quizzes and oral tests, class participation, group discussion, assignments, project work, presentations and will announce such weights in the beginning of the course. The concerned faculty shall be responsible for the continuous internal evaluation. The internal evaluation shall have in general a total weight of 60 percent. 8 Evaluation System Contd..
External Evaluation There will be an end term examination in the courses offered during the term. The end term examination is based on the format of Pokhara University and is undertaken at a different college under the affiliation of Pokhara University. Brief Content The Course introduces the basic concepts and process of strategic planning as well as orient on the application of strategic planning and management in Health Care Delivery and importance of Environmental Analysis. It deals with process, alternatives and selection of strategies, and implementation and evaluation of strategy. Prepare students to upgrade professional level managerial position to start specialized professional in Health Care Management either in Health Management or in Hospital Management Inculcate a positive attitude, abilities and practical skills so essential for component and responsible manager Develop necessary foundation for professional managerial skills in Management, especially in Health Care Management and Prepare students to take position as Chief of the Hospital Management: Hospital Administrator in middle sized hospitals, health projects or unit chiefs of large-scale health care organizations. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE A student needs to successfully complete maximum 30 credit hours (10 courses of 3 credit hours each) of course works to graduate PGDHCM program. Capstone Course (one) Total one course of three credit hours (total 3 credit hours) for the capstone courses. 4. This course is designed to introduce the students to management principles. The course provides a general understanding of management process, techniques, basic of planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. The course also provides an understanding of management theory and its historical development such as transition from classical management theories to contemporary management theories.
