1 A warm welcome to Year 1.

7 Year 1 Curriculum English Text – Funnybones
Skills – Punctuation, understanding the term prediction and exploration of the text, develop imagination, using descriptive words, description of people and setting. Outcome – To write our own story. Moving on to – Traditional Tales

8 Year 1 Curriculum Maths- Developing a deep understanding. Ensuring skills are embedded before moving on. Working on number skills. Partitioning, addition and subtraction methods. Investigations- Using and applying skills. Moving on to mental math strategies to prepare them for Year 2.

9 Year 1 Curriculum Science- Our body.
Learning about body parts, the skeleton, internal organs and now moving on to learning about the purpose of senses. Practical lessons. Seasons- Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer, Months and weather.

10 Year 1 Curriculum Theme: Funnybones. Linked to our Science unit.
Visitors to talk to the children linked to our theme. Trips- Geography – Summer Term. Looking at maps, atlas, understanding the world a little better, compare with another country History – Great Fire of London and old toys. DT/Art – cooking, making pop ups, painting, drawing, discovering.

21 Helping at home Read the book and identify the target sound.
Play hunt the sound – get your child to identify how one sound (phoneme) can have different spellings (graphemes). E.g. the ay sound can be represented by ai, a-e, a, ae, ey, ea, eigh, aigh. Play hunt the spelling – get your child to identify how one spelling (grapheme) can have different sounds (phonemes). E.g. the oo spelling can represent oo as in book and oo as in moon.

22 Helping at home Retell the story, perhaps through drama, using as many of the target sound words identified in previous reading. Discuss an alternative ending encouraging children to use words that include the target sound.

23 Helping at home Share other texts- additional reading list, First News. Comprehension skills- make predictions, inference skills- how is a character feeling using evidence from the text or make plausible predictions. Look at features of particular text types features of organisation, e.g. beginning and ending of story, types of punctuation, information books, stories, print media improve vocabulary or identify words and why have they been used. E.g. slimy.

24 Helping at home Maths: Practical maths- money, cooking, counting objects, playing games such as Snakes and Ladders, handling money, counting and recognition of numbers. Local library

What- what are they doing online? Where- where are my children going online? Explore these questions with your children to maximise dialogue, support your children, set rules and boundaries whilst they are the internet. Internet safety- E-safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Bourton Meadow Academy. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safe guard children from potential dangers or unsuitable material. As parents, we know that you also have security measures available to keep your children safe at home. It is important to remember that the internet is a fantastic resource for both adults and young people but we need to remember the safety implications for the children. How many of you actually know what apps your children are accessing and what they are viewing online? There are 3 really important questions to consider when talking to your children. Think WWW! Who- who are my children talking to online? What- what are they doing online? Where- where are my children going online?
