This PowerPoint presentation is to help a Lions Club Format a working plan for the Future. What does your club currently do and what is it’s future. It is used to help set Goals for your club as well as develop programs that will benefit your community. Change the Slides as needed to reflect your Club and Community. This is an ongoing process – it needs to be updated as needed. The club changes based upon the members and community. The plan for the future needs to change with those changes also. Thanks to The Millbrae Lions Club for their valuable assistance in setting up this Power Point Presentation for “Building for the Future”. 1

Project Portfolio Evaluation – (There are no sacred cows) Evaluate and update to ensure relevancy to the current needs of our community Eliminate non-relevant projects Identify new projects that meet the needs of our community Develop a Roadmap Towards Future Success Strengthen Collaboration with other Service Organizations to benefit the Community Membership Development / Growth Strengthen core competency Recurred new members Retain current members (Less than a 5% turnover annually) What are your club’s priorities? Who do you serve? Seniors - Youth - Disabled or Special Needs - Health Services – Support for Local Organizations? Have the needs of your community changed? Do you still have fun? Evaluate your current club projects. Both fund raising as well as who you donate to. Are they still effective and do they still serve the community? Should they be deleted or changed? How will your club integrate the projects into your club? Can your club benefit for the development of your goals by working with other community organizations? Make them part of your plans. The more members you have the more you can accomplish. Do you have the membership needed to accomplish your goals? Are you mentoring and developing your current members so that they are an active part of your club, both current and future. Do you have a new member recruiting plan? Are new members asked to participate or if they have ideas for new projects? How many new members per year do you need for future programs or projects? Way do members leave your club? Does your club do an exit interview? 3

What Service projects do we do now What are our community Needs What support do we receive and provide to other non-Profits in Our Community? Who do we Serve – Who are our Customers Who did we serve when our club started and how has that changed over the years? Has our focus changed? Has a “Community Needs Assessment” been completed? Are our projects still serving our community? Are our projects still targeting those that we want to serve? What other organizations do we partner with and are they relevant to our goals and to what we want to focus on in our Lions Club? Who does our Lions Club Serve 5

6 Planning for Club Goals
Think BIG but start small Think both Tactically and Strategically Strive for Continual Improvement, not Instant Perfection Look for Ideas Everywhere (Don’t recreate the Wheel) Grow from “It’s All About ME” to “ It’s all about WE” Have “FUN” o What are our Guiding Principals? We may not have the resources or the membership to do a large project but we can grow into it through planning. What is needed for a project. People Other organizations, supplies, as well as who we are serving and is there another way to provide the same services (In conjunction with other Lions Clubs or other organizations) Some great projects have started with programs that have not been successful the first time attempted. No project is perfect. Things change and can improve each time the project is done. Our goal is to improve each time. As a team “WE” succeed or fail together. There is no “ME” or “I”, it is a team. No one likes to work hard or be unappreciated. Some did a lot and other only a little but All did what they could. Thank all those that have participated. HAVE FUN. What are our Guiding Principals 6

7 Planning for Club Goals
Our Lions Club Core Focus – Past, present, and future We have a diverse group of Lions that are experienced and enthusiastic who are willing and able to help address the unmet needs of our community. Fundraising. Our Lion members and friends help though: Fundraising Program Planning and/or execution. Our Club and Our Community The Core Focus of Our Lions Club may be different from when our Lions Club was established as to what it is today. The Lions Club may be serving a different customer because the community may have changed or the needs may have changed over the years. The question is what are the needs of our community and are we meeting those needs today? The UNMET needs. It may be useful to perform a “Community Assessments Needs” survey. Our membership is the best recourse we have. They are experienced and enthusiastic. They want and need to be involved in the Club projects as well as fundraisers. They are a valuable source for new ideas for fundraisers and projects. They provide the “sweat-equity” needed for our Lions Club to achieve it’s goals. Club Members can also be a valuable resource for new projects and fundraisers. Just because a project or fundraiser has not worked in the past is not necessarily a good reason to try it again. Times change. It may work. Do not discourage; encourage. Our Club and Our Community 7

8 Planning for Club Goals
Our Customers: Youth - Senior - Organizations - Other Our Projects and Fundraisers: Changing with our community Our Club Focus, Goals, and Membership Collaboration with other organizations Where do we want to go? What will we look like in 2019 and beyond? Our community and the unmet needs of our community have and will change ofer the years. We need to be able to revise our Focus on who and how we serve the needs of our community. We need to evaluate our community and who we serve on a continuous basis. Goals can and should be reviewed and adjusted as needed to make we are focused to who we are serving as well as how re raise funds for those ser vices. Our membership is our most valuable resource. Get all nvolved and ask them for their opinions as well as help and funds. We can do a lot as a Lions Club but even more wit the help of others. Other organization with some of the same goals can be used to help support our projects and fundraisers. Governmental organizations such as schools and city can be used to help develop community needs as well as getting support for our own goals and projects. Our Future – What will our club look like in 2019 and beyond 8
