Main Features of the OML Master Program
MSc OML = 2 years = 8 quarters 2 periods (‘quarters’) per semester 8 weeks classes; 2 weeks exams per period Interim period (re-exams) in the summer European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) Based on student estimated workload 1 ECTS = 28 hrs of workload All courses: 5 ECTS = 140 hrs Typically 3 courses per quarter = 15 ECTS = 420 hrs MSc OML = 2 years = 8 quarters = 120 ECTS = 3360 hrs IE&IS PAGE 9

At TU/e, you need to register in the system OASE for each individual course you plan to take. Go to How to register? 1JM11 Performance Enhancement In this course, students get familiarized with the diverse aspects of human performance in organizations. Students will increase their knowledge about the performance of individual employees as well as the performance of teams using state-of-the-art developments in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology. This course is aimed at teaching students how to apply theoretical knowledge in order to enhance human performance. Furthermore, students are trained to critically read scientific articles and to design new studies in the area of performance enhancement. 1JM110 Research Methods The objective of this course is to provide the students with methodological knowledge and maturity in undertaking research into operations management. It introduces philosophical issues in the theory of knowledge, ethical issues in research conduct, and considers quantitative and qualitative methods in turn, addressing issues in specific approaches, and considerations in data collection, simulation, and analysis. The course is taught through weekly lectures and several assignments, which aim to enhance the understanding of specific methods. For the small group assignments, students will study some of the research methods in depth. They will work on the assignments in groups. Several lecturers from different disciplines will contribute to this course. The emphasis throughout is on understanding the conceptual underpinning of different methods, and their strengths and limitations in research. /School of Industrial Engineering

Core Requirements The students also need to acquire sufficient knowledge in financing and accounting. This can be obtained from 1CM22 Integrated Financial & Operations Management, as well as BSc courses (such as the current 1CK40 AND 1-out-of-two:1CK80 or 1CK90), or a course during the international semester. Furthermore, the students need to have sufficient knowledge in programming and simulation at the start of the program, as this knowledge is pre-requisite in some courses. The students missing this knowledge are strongly recommended to follow a homologation course (such as 1BK50) which will consume from the free elective space. /School of Industrial Engineering

1CM22 - Integrated financial & operations management
The course consists of four conceptual parts: (1) Valuation of investment opportunities, trade credit, implications for inventory management (2) Risk and capital markets: portfolio theory, market information & efficiency, supply chain finance (3) Financial & real options: products, pricing, implications for production choices (4) Risk management: role of derivatives (forwards, futures, options) in speculation and hedging. Ultimately, this course deals with advanced topics that integrate financial and operations management. /School of Industrial Engineering

1CM36 - Game theory with applications to supply chain management
Decision making by various entities can result in conflict or cooperation between these entities. Game theory deals with the mathematical modelling of these situations of conflict and cooperation and with the analysis of these models. We will provide a solid introduction to both cooperative game theory and noncooperative game theory. Subsequently, we will focus on several applications in the area of Supply Chain Management. /School of Industrial Engineering

1JM100 - Management of Organizational Change and Innovation
This course provides students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the management of organizational change and innovation. By the end of this course, students will have in depth knowledge on the design and implementation of an organizational change process. They will understand the decision making process involved, and the role of the different actors in the change process. Topics that are addressed in this course are, amongst others: building a need and a platform for change, navigating change through the (in)formal organization, managing recipients of change and internal stakeholders, action planning , designing effective control systems and evaluation. /School of Industrial Engineering

In modern businesses, the extraction of information from the data in the information systems has become a competitive advantage. The availability of large amounts of data of different modalities (i.e. big data) often requires the use of advanced analytics, computational models and intelligent methods for discovering the relevant information that a business needs. The theories, methods and the architectures for achieving this goal is termed business intelligence. Principles of business intelligence. Advanced data analysis methods by using computational intelligence techniques Non-probabilistic uncertainty modeling, with a focus on fuzzy systems. Adaptive and learning models based on neural networks (Multi-objective) optimization of operational processes through nature-inspired meta-heuristics (evolutionary computation techniques such as genetic/memetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, ant-colony optimization) /School of Industrial Engineering

The MSc Excellence Track in Design or Research is an additional program to the Master’s program (20 ects extra) Both excellence tracks starts preferably in the first semester of the Master’s program. Students that have successfully followed the excellence track of the MSc have priority for admittance to the PDEng or PhD program in Industrial Engineering (no guarantee).

Consists of 20 ECTS of core courses and design assignments of the PDEng program in IE. Design assignments: solve real-life design problems from the industry Each design assignment includes: A company visit A presentation for the involved company Grading based on innovativeness and value for the company

MSc Excellence Track in Research
Entails the following elements: 2 mini-research projects in 2 research fields (1st year of the master, 5 ects per project) PhD courses (2nd year of the master, 10 ects in total), as part of the electives MSc thesis project on research topic (leading to a scientific paper) Additional PhD courses can be followed in the 2nd year of the master (as part of the electives)

Examples of Honors Programs
An Applied Physics student is keen to continue as a PhD after her master. She wants to work at an international top-of-the-bill lab for 3 months (15 credits) and hopes to be able to present a paper at an international conference. Example 2 An Electrical Engineering student has an idea for a new application and wants to analyze its prospects. Together with the Innovation Lab the student will explore the various options, write a first business plan (10 credits) and dive into Intellectual Property at the University of Tilburg (5 credits). Example 3 A Mechanical Engineering student has a strong interest in materials. He wants to participate in a summer school (5 credits) and do an internship at a Dutch company (10 credits). All examples are without the 5 credits for personal leadership

During written examinations, the following actions will in any case be deemed to constitute fraud or attempted fraud: using another person's proof of identity/campus card (student identity card) Not being able to prove your identity (campus card) having a mobile telephone or any other type of media-carrying device on your desk or in your clothes using, or attempting to use, unauthorized resources and aids, such as the internet, a mobile telephone, etc. using a clicker that does not belong to you having any paper at hand other than that provided by TU/e, unless stated otherwise visiting the toilet (or going outside) without permission or supervision

What is plagiarism? Consequences of academic fraud
With any suspicion of fraud, the exam committee is to decide whether or not fraud occurred, if so… …the default punishment for first time offenders is: Student fails on the entire course (even when plagiarism occurred in a small intermediate assignment) Student is excluded from taking the exams of that course for one year The misconduct will be entered into the student’s file and no longer eligible for a judicium when graduating (met hoge waardering / cum laude) …the maximum punishment (e.g., for a recidivist): Student’s education at TU/e will be terminated Halsema, L. How to prevent plagiarism? Doubts? Contact your teacher!
Some advice in how to prevent plagiarism: Keep track of the sources you read. Especially the location of online content may be easily forgotten if not systematically noted down Make notes about the sources you read, indicating each and every time what you copy-pasted and / or paraphrased. This prevents forgetting which were your own words and ideas and which were not Use proper ways of citing or referring to a source. When in doubt contact the teacher! Include the necessary source references immediately while writing. Do not wait until after your work is finished. Keep track of how your ideas and / or writings have developed over time. Other people, including your group members, must be able to trace the originality of your work Make sure to have examined every document on which you appear as an author Never submit anything that contains plagiarism. If you suspect plagiarism by a group member, then do not put your name on the manuscript. Do not wait until the final moment to finalize a document. What is an honours track?
A number of special courses, with a total load of 20 ECTS (as extra ECTS), offered to a selection of master students, to test and develop capabilities for Design: PDEng Logistics Management Systems (LMS), or Research: PhD.

BETA PhD Operations Management & Logistics 24 months program With honors track completed: 18 months as trainee (salary/contract) Aimed at designing complex logistics systems and preparing them for full implementation Skills: system development, design, consultancy, presentations, organizational change 48 months program With honors track completed: months as research assistant (promovendus) Aimed at conducting academic research to become an independent researcher eligible for a university career Skills: methodologies, writing, research questions development, creating academic impact

Offered by the following HiR mentors: In principle all qualified mentors within OML It is advised to have a full professor involved (as mentor or second supervisor)

Consists of: Two mini-research projects to discover two different research fields, in 1st year (5 ects per project) PhD courses, in 2nd year (10 ects) Master thesis project: Topic and supervisor chosen at the end of 1st year Is preceded by the writing of a PhD research proposal (instead of literature study and formulation thesis assignment) Proposal can be used to compete for grants (at e.g. NWO) Master thesis is on first part of the PhD research proposal Additional PhD courses can be followed in 2nd year of master, as part of the electives
