3. Policy Context: What is Future in Mind?
Published in March 2015 – one of the last major documents from the Coalition.
Proposes 5 ways to transform children’s mental health services.
In October 2015, Sheffield submitted a transformation plan to secure funding to transform children’s mental health services.

4. Timeline of Future in Mind
March 2015: Future in Mind Published.
May 2015: Conservatives win the General Election.
October 2015: Sheffield CCG and Sheffield City Council submit a bid for funding.
January 2016 – Funding awarded.
February 2016 – Stakeholder event.
July 2016 – New programme team.
October 2016: Plan refreshed.

5. What are we trying to achieve in schools?
Radical transformation of EWBMH offer for Sheffield schools through a universal early intervention and prevention offer.
Key aims include:
Enabling schools to identify their own emotional wellbeing and mental health priorities.
Providing CAMHS in reach to support school staff to support EWBMH needs.
Enabling student voice through Healthy Minds champions.
Integration of mental health with other school policies on behaviour, inclusion and self-harm.
Reduced referrals to T3/4 CAMHS and reduced DNA’s in CAMHS as a result of engagement at school level.

7. Healthy Minds Framework
Focus of the framework is capacity building in schools and changing culture. Framework has been praised nationally.
Helping schools to respond to the mental health needs of their school population.
Improved understanding of mental health to help manage behaviour, improve attendance and help ensure children ready to learn.
Role of CAMHS is to provide in reach into school and consultation – not direct provision.
If vulnerable children are identified, the CAMHS link helps manage needs and onward referral if required.

9. Healthy Minds Framework Update
Proposal has gone to Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to expand the Healthy Minds Framework to approximately 60 schools.
Formal response is due on the 11th November.
Learn Sheffield will be facilitating an event with the provider and schools to determine where the next phase will be rolled out to

We are also working with other services such as the Inclusion Service, to ensure that the Healthy Minds roll-out is joined up with other areas of work.

11. Free training in schools
Commissioned as a result of a needs analysis.
Training is free but places are limited.
Copies of the booklet with all training dates and booking details are available.

12. Youth Mental Health First Aid
MHFA for Schools and Colleges has been designed especially with schools in mind.
MHFA Schools covers key topics around young people’s mental health and wellbeing, with a strong practical focus on how to support young people experiencing mental distress.
Delegates become Champions for better mental health in schools.

13. Attachment Training
This course aims to give the attendees knowledge and confidence to understand and spot the symptoms of trauma, to identify key areas of need through assessment tools and to put into place evidence based strategies within the classroom to help the child become more successful and see a decrease of difficult behaviors and achieve more academically.

14. Flower 125 Health Programme
The Flower 125 Health Programme has been delivered in Sheffield for over 15 years and provides a model for delivering effective health promotion activities with groups of children and young people.
This “Made in Sheffield” programme is structured but not prescriptive and is unique in that it provides a model of delivery as well as a comprehensive resource pack providing activities on a variety of health topics including, relationships, first aid, drugs, alcohol, and smoking, healthy eating, physical activity etc.

15. TAMHS Toolkit Refresh
As part of Future in Mind we have also commissioned a refresh of the TAMHS (Targeted Mental Health in Schools) Toolkit.
The toolkit aims to provide information on:
Which agencies or organisations staff should refer to or seek advice from if there
When and how school staff can refer children and young people who have severe, complex and persistent mental health needs to Children and Adolescent MentalHealth Services (CAMHS).
The Toolkit should be available by February 2017.

16. Let’s Talk Directory
As part of the CAMHS School Link Pilot, Sheffield CCG and Sheffield City Council commissioned the Let’s Talk Directory.
The directory is young people friendly and is aimed at young people, families and schools.
The directory is organised into different mental health conditions and the services available.

17. Chilypep Anti-Stigma Campaign
Young people have told us they would like to see an anti-stigma campaign which promotes positive experience of mental health services and support.
Chilypep are in the process of launching this campaign and will be providing materials to schools.
