16. WHAT?
Maya 2020 is a Belizean initiative that aims to end the illegal deforestation and degradation of the Chiquibul Forest in Belize by the start of Weaving together international best practice and successful innovations from around the world, Maya 2020 will synchronize multiple lines of action to permanently change destructive behaviors, allowing the Chiquibul Forest to expand rather than shrink, thrive rather than collapse. If successful, Maya 2020 would set a new global standard for forest protection, while preserving Belize’s natural heritage and strengthening relations with neighboring areas.
