Holy, Holy, Holy Summer 2015

Before we can understand Holy we must understand sin

Introduction Gen 1:2-3 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. (3) Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

Introduction 2Co 4:6 For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Definition Sin is the fault and corruption of the nature of every man who is a natural off spring of Adam; whereby man is very far gone from original righteousness, and is of his own nature inclined to evil, so that flesh lusts always against the spirit; and therefore, in every person born into the world, it deserves God’s wrath and damnation – Articles of the Church of England

sin is the transgression of the law
- I John 4:3

sin is the transgression of the law
Depart, ye cursed, into everlasting fire Matthew 25:41 - I John 4:3

Origin Poor parenting Bad company Circumstances

Origin Poor parenting Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life – Prov 4:23

Origin Bad company

Origin Circumstances No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it - 1Co 10:13

Origin Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (10) for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Extent Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually

Extent Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually Jer 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

Extent Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually Jer 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? Rom 7:18-19 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. (19) For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.

Extent Isa 1:4-6 Alas, sinful nation, People weighed down with iniquity, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the LORD, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have turned away from Him. (5) Where will you be stricken again, As you continue in your rebellion? The whole head is sick And the whole heart is faint. (6) From the sole of the foot even to the head There is nothing sound in it.

Offensiveness Job 15: "What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? (15) "Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight; (16) How much less one who is detestable and corrupt, Man, who drinks iniquity like water!

Offensiveness Job 15:14-16 "What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? (15) "Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight; (16) How much less one who is detestable and corrupt, Man, who drinks iniquity like water! Psa 51:6&5 Behold, [God] desire[s] truth in the innermost being, [but] I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Offensiveness … the soul that sins, it shall die (Ez 18:20 Rom 6:23) Jas 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

Isaiah ben Amoz

In the year of king Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.

Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts. The whole earth is full of His glory.

And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.

Then [Isaiah] said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined
Then [Isaiah] said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. (7) He touched my mouth with it and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?

Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!
