14 Educational Goals Literacy:
To provide students with the strategies and skills to be successful independent readers. Reading Workshop Mini lesson on reading strategies Independent Reading Read Alouds Conferencing Strategy groups Mathematics: To provide students with a basic understanding of mathematical concepts and use that knowledge to solve problems. Daily Word Problems Mini lessons Whole and small group instruction

15 Programs…….. Common Core: Basic Skills Program:
Literacy: Teachers College Reading Workshop Writing Workshop Math: Math Expressions Basic Skills Program: Students scoring below proficiency on state assessment will be eligible for basic skills services in math and/or reading classes. Gifted and Talented Program: Literacy: All students receive individualized reading instruction based on their independent reading levels during their LAL block. Math: Students who meet the criteria will be eligible for advanced math instruction.

16 Standardized Assessments
Literacy Teachers College Reading Assessment- assesses a student’s fluency and comprehension level. (3x) NJASK – state reading and writing grade level assessment . (1x) MAP- assesses a student’s reading ability. (3x) Mathematics MAP – assesses the student’s mathematical ability. (3x) NJASK- state assessment that tests a student’s ability to solve mathematical problems in the 5 areas of math on grade level. (1x)

17 Before and After School Options….
The Latch Key Program is offered in the morning and in the afternoon. The program is available all year long for a small fee through the BOE offices. 21st CCLC “BOOST” program is offered after school to all students for free. Students must sign up and attend at least three days a week to be eligible for the program, which runs from 3 to 6 pm each day. Sign up information will be given out the first week of school. The program starts Sept 17th and runs through the end of May and also has a four week summer component.

18 Communication……. Take Home Folder & – once a week students will take home all important information in a folder . Parents can also sign up to get that information electronically as well as through . Student Agenda- all assignments will be written in the agenda by students. Students must bring the agenda to school with them each day. Monthly Principal Newsletter- information about what is happening in the school, highlighting staff and students will be sent home monthly. Global Connect Call- automated system that will call your home and notify you of school functions and important information Teacher Voice Mail- you may call and leave a teacher a message. Teachers can not speak with parents during class time. Website- click on Cleary at the top of menu. It is a temporary site until school opens.

19 Future Events… Visiting classrooms in June to share information with students on their new building. Move into the building at the beginning of August Student Orientation- Last week of August. Time and dates will be forthcoming. Parent Orientation – Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 6pm.
