13 Course Goal After completing this training, each CAP member will understand and be able to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of an AEO at the Technician Level. INSTRUCTOR NOTES Aerospace Education Technician Training: The purpose of this training is to offer immediate assistance to the newly appointed Aerospace Education Officer or any member who wants to participate in the Aerospace Education Specialty track. The 10 Tab AE Notebook will provide the AEO in establishing practices that meet the guidelines for earning there Technician Rating in a shortened time line but more than that will assist the AEO with steps that will enable them to become a professional in the CAP AE program. The power point program and the 10 TABS will provide the AEO with tools for both physical and mentally to excite the minds of local youth about aerospace

14 Course Objectives To educate CAP AE leaders in their job requirements and the resources available to them. To increase communication between squadrons, groups, wings, regions, and NHQ. INSTRUCTOR NOTES Resources The course will establish the new AEO with a path to accumulate knowledge and how to reach out to the Wing and Region for assistance and support. Physical Support 450 classroom sessions designed to take off the shelf and add or subtract what you need. We will show you where to find these tools How to use them And how much fun it is to use the projects We will also discuss how to use the available tools you have on this base    Mental Support How many of you have stood before a classroom or a tour group of rd graders? year olds? And obviously you survived, but what was your comfort level? We can help you understand the process of instruction/teaching, keeping their attention and recognizing what road blocks that may be in front of you.

15 A “BRIEF” 75 year history of Civil Air Patrol
Civil Air Patrol Video!!! INSTRUCTOR NOTES Recommendation is the primary pages of these PDF and WEB pages are downloaded for easy access.

16 History – CAP & AE HISTORY In December 1941, one week before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Civil Air Patrol was founded by more than 150,000 citizens who were concerned about the defense of America’s coastline. Under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Forces, CAP pilots flew more than 500,000 hours performing a wide variety of duties, including coastal patrol for submarine activity as well as ships and personnel in distress, target towing for the Armed Forces and courier flights for essential personnel and war materials. On July 1, 1946, President Harry Truman established CAP as a federally chartered nonprofit corporation, and Congress passed a law on May 26, 1948, designating CAP as the Air Force auxiliary and giving CAP three primary missions — emergency services, cadet programs and aerospace education. INSTRUCTOR NOTES What you may not have learned in Level 1, is that Aerospace Education, Science Engineering and Math has been active in CAP for the past 68 year or since 1948.

17 68 Years STEM as part of the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Program goes back 68 Years Make sure you use what ever Year you are presenting this and subtracting May : May 26, 2016 is 68 years CAP is 75 years old December 1, 2016

19 Relevance Importance of AE U.S. relies on strong aerospace power
- for national security and air superiority - boosts economic prosperity --Aerospace industry contributes 15% GNP --3.1 billion flew commercial in 2013* --25 million general aviation flight hours in 2013** enhances quality of life * IATA news release ** 2013 GAMA General Aviation Statistical Databook INSTRUCTOR NOTES Aerospace Education is as important, if not more so, today in protecting our Nation and our way of life. Aerospace has a significant impact on the United States. The United States relies on strong aerospace power for national security and air superiority. Aviation, unmanned aviation, space, cyber space CAP AE program is one of the components to combat the graying of the AE Industry, and that other nations are producing more scientist, engineers and mathematicians that the united states. CAP AE program is one of the components to influence youth to join the aerospace industry whether that be as a pilot, engineer, designer or support personnel. An example of support personnel would be where Boeing Aviation employed 165,500 people in 9 states and this does not include the industries that supply the parts and components such as Garmin avionics or GE engines.

20 Aerospace Challenges Workforce & Education Challenges
Graying of AE industry Other countries producing more scientists & engineers Mr. Tito is a billionaire who believes America should people on Mars by 2018 INSTRUCTOR NOTES It is vital to our nation that we spark our youth into seeking and learning more about STEM, careers and opportunities New manned mission to Mars by 2018 announced by business-man Dennis Tito. 21 Aerospace Education Defined
that branch of general education concerned with communicating knowledge, skills, and attitudes about aerospace activities and the total impact of air and space vehicles upon society. AEROSPACE EDUCATION supports science, technology, engineering, & math (STEM) education, while providing teachers with the tools to teach their required curriculum in extraordinary ways. INSTRUCTOR NOTES List your expectations for the students For example; I am here to learn from you. We will be open to new experiences Sometimes it is not as dumb as it sounds When it is let me know The only way this works is if we communicate. Some way other than body language What might be some of the student expectations?

22 Aerospace Education Mission
CAP’S AEROSPACE EDUCATION MISSION: To educate both Civil Air Patrol members and the general public on the important role aviation and space have played and will continue to play in America’s future. 2. To encourage our nation’s youth to consider aerospace careers and to promote civil aviation in local communities.

23 Mission Statement & Authority

24 Time for an exercise? Activity Instructions
1. Cut out one big rectangle, otherwise known as your “rocket body.” Curl the rectangle lengthwise around a pencil and tape it into a tube. 3. Cut out two rocket fin units. Line up the rectangle on one unit with the bottom of the rocket body. Tape it on. Line up the second fin unit and tape it to the opposite side of the tube. 4.The fins should form a + shape. 5. Put the straw inside the rocket and line up the front of the rocket with the end of the straw. Tape the end of your rocket closed. 6. Let it fly! Blow into the straw to launch your rocket. 7. Keep testing different nose cone lengths until you are satisfied. INSTRUCTOR NOTES: In my opinion AE is about activities and keeping the attention of your students whether they are 12 or +30. Keep this first exercise to a few minutes, choose an exercise that fits you and your classroom.

Applies to all squadrons, groups, & wings Documentation -AE POA, signed approvals & filed appropriately with HQs INSTRUCTOR NOTES What is a Plan of Action? An action plan is a way to make sure your organization's vision is made concrete. It describes the way your Unit will use its strategies for conducting aerospace education. It is a flexible document recording your units aerospace education goals. POA assists the AEO the next AEO and the Unit Commander keep up with the activities of the Unit. POAs that state goals and objectives and outline ways to achieve or measure those objectives are easy to follow and monitor for progress. What makes a good Plan of Action Each action step or change to be sought should include the following information: What actions or changes will occur Who will carry out these changes By when they will take place, and for how long What resources (i.e., money, staff) are needed to carry out these changes Communication (who should know what?) CAP has a guideline for specific items in the Plan of Action, encourage the student to not stop there add areas of the Plan specific to the needs of their Unit.

81 AE Plan of Action (AEPOA)

- To Regions – 15 Jan - To NHQ – 15 Feb INSTRUCTOR NOTES In addition to CAPR para 6; Why should you develop an action plan? inspirational adage that says, "People don't plan to fail. Instead they fail to plan." There are lots of good reasons to work out the details of your organization's work in an action plan, including: To lend credibility to your organization. An action plan shows members of the community (including grantmakers) that your organization is well ordered and dedicated to getting things done. To be sure you don't overlook any of the details To understand what is and isn't possible for your organization to do For efficiency: to save time, energy, and resources in the long run For accountability: To increase the chances that people will do what needs to be done To prioritize, we have only so much time, resources and budget
