1 APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY

2 General Guidelines Add information as you want it to appear ie Joe Bloggs and not joe bloggs ! Marks appear on areas not completed or completed incorrectly Cost is £24 ? Provides further clarification Don’t forget to complete and save Don’t forget your username and password – school has no access Sharedresources > CEIAG >UCAS and on the website

3 Register www.ucas.com Click on “Apply”
Click on “Apply for 2017 courses” Click on register (first time only) and complete registration process Make sure you note down username, password and ID number Log in using your username and password You are applying through a school and the buzzword is “Marina”

4 Personal Details Name / address etc Nationality / Dual nationality
Reference numbers and passport – should be blank Student Support - Fee code: 02-LA, SAAS.. Student support arrangements – Education Authority Mailings – make sure they can contact you Nominated access – parent??? Disability / Special needs

5 Additional Information
Ethnic origin and national identity Equality questions Residential category – UK Citizen – Northern Ireland Activities in preparation for HE – probably none Answer questions on being in care and parental education

6 Choices Add up to 5 choices Oxbridge – only once
Medicine / Dentistry / Vet – only 4 Point of entry – leave blank unless prompted Read any notes carefully Make them realistic!! Remember, you should have an insurance choice

7 Education 1 Click on “add a new school/college/ centre”
Find “Grosvenor” and centre number should fill in automatically (71234) Complete dates, attendance and qualification etc and, if necessary, fill in a second school

8 Education 2 Click on “Add qualifications”
Highest level of Qualification – below Honours Fill in for all GCSEs and AS levels that you have completed and your grades and exam boards Enter your current A levels and the results “pending” Certification will be August Fill in module results – advisable!!

9 Employment Not essential unless relevant to what you are applying

10 Statement 4000 characters or 47 lines of text
This includes blank lines and spaces Cut and paste from Word – do not type straight in Guidance available on website Careers teacher will help you to draft it All statements checked electronically for fraud General Studies next week

11 DIARY OF UCAS APPLICATIONS
Week commencing What should I be doing??? 5th September General studies period with Mrs Browne to explain how to complete your UCAS form and the internal procedures 12th September General studies period with representative from Stirling university about writing personal statements 19th September Interviewer lists published on notice board in common room. Approach teacher/interviewer concerned and organise interview ASAP!!!!!. 26th September Interviews taking place 3rd September 10th October 17th October Friday 21st October is the FINAL deadline for paper copies of applications to be handed in to Mrs BROWNE NOTE: Early deadline candidates will work on their UCAS applications with Ms Lunny(Oxbridge) and Mrs Browne (Medics, Dentists, Vets) and must hand in their application to Mrs Browne by Friday 7th October.

12 Your Interview Everyone will receive an interview
The interview period will run from Monday 26th September until Friday 14th October Interview lists will be published in the common room and in registers from Monday 19th September The interviewer will ideally be your L6th Careers teacher

13 Your Interview It is YOUR responsibility to organise your interview
Once you know who your interviewer is, approach them and make an appointment Make your appointment ASAP You can only use an independent study or privilege period Your interviewer will give you a sign out slip if necessary

14 Before Your Interview Complete your UCAS form fully and print a copy to bring to your interview Note the grades required for your courses on your print out Work on your personal statement. Your careers teacher is there to help you You are not allowed to sign out of independent study to work on your UCAS form or personal statement

15 After the interview Make any recommended changes and finalise your form A hard copy of the form must be handed to Mrs Browne personally in A203 during registration Hand it in as soon as it is finished – don’t wait until the deadline The sooner we have it, the sooner it is processed and sent to UCAS

16 After the interview As you hand it in, I will give it one final check
If there are still errors, it will be returned to you If it is accepted, you must then click on “pay and send” Pay £24 by debit or credit card The form cannot be sent to UCAS until it is paid Do NOT pay and send until final approval

17 What happens next?? Form will be passed to your referee who writes the reference (1 week) Form is passed to Dr Vasey for final approval, to the office for typing and then to Mrs Browne who sends it to UCAS (one week) UCAS sends you a confirmation (one week) Could be three weeks before you hear anything!! If longer, see Mrs Browne

18 What happens next?? Wait!!!! You will receive one of three things:
An unconditional offer (Very rare!!) A conditional offer A rejection You must wait until all five decisions have been made before you do anything else Pick a “firm” and “insurance” offer by May

19 What if???? Ask your careers teacher Come and see Mrs Browne
Every registration and senior lunch A203 Contact UCAS for your password

20 QUB/UUJ Open Days Thursday 8th September
All U6th attending or in school School uniform must be worn Remember, you are representing the school in everything that you do!! Stay with friends at all times If someone inappropriate approaches, walk away Keep safe!!

21 Parent Meeting Monday 12th September 2016 Encourage them to attend
